On a 1994 3 cylinder Geo Metro engine, I am getting coolent in the exhaust. I figure it has to be either the head gasket or intake manifold. It was easy to disconect and plug all coolent lines to the intake manifold and the problem seems to have stopped. Has anyone heard of this problem before? Next step is to take the manifold off and replace the gasket but I don't think any coolent flows from the head directly into the manifold. It only flows via hoses. Thanks in advance for any ideas about this problem. |

It could be said that the head gasket has failed. However, the most likely explanation of your "blown" head gasket is that the aluminum of the head and/or block has corroded, allowing engine coolant to enter the combustion chamber. Replacing the head gasket without addressing the condition of the mating surfaces may not be a long term solution. |

have you thought about pressurizing the system with an outside pump hooked up where the radiator cap goes? then you could pull plugs and see if there is water in the cylinders, check all gaskets, O rings, freeze plugs etc -------- |

At the moment, I don't have the equipment to presurize the system. I also wanted to hook up a compressor to each cylinder (one at a time) to see if bubbles form in the radiator. Thanks to all who looked at this problem. |
