I found a '98 Chevy Metro LSi 4 door 1.3 5 speed with 150k miles. Asking price is $1000 & his bottom dollar is $800. I called the owner & felt it was worth checking out. My brother checked it out & test drove it after work today & thinks it's worth $800. It has very little surface rust on the driver's side frame horn & passenger side was perfect. Some rocker panel rust & a little at rear wheel wells. Cosmetically the paint is in excellent condition. It has a small dent in the hood from a deer. The windshield has a crack, but out of line of vison. Interior is good. A/C works. No CEL. Newer front brakes, rotors, clutch & some gaskets. He said in the last 20k miles he averaged ~41 MPG. It's been sitting the last 9 months due to losing his job. Upon startup, there was a puff of smoke. It was usually down 1/2 quart every 3,500 miles on oil changes, but he thinks it's mostly from gaskets he hadn't replaced yet. It needs rear brakes, maybe drums & 4 tires (currently has a donut). Engine ran great and transmission shifted great. However, there's a noise coming from possibly the tranny & is why he's only asking $1k. Before noise, he wanted $1600. My brother said he heard it most in 3rd gear & sounds like "metal on metal". The noise is more prominent at speeds above 50 MPH though. I thought maybe a wheel bearing? Either way, I have a 3.79 sitting in my garage from a 1.3 if it needs replaced. My brother offered $800 if it's still available Sunday. He said he'd take it. We don't really NEED another car, but it's hard to pass up another fairly rust free Metro & being a '98+ 1.3 5 speed 4 door is fairly rare. Since we don't really NEED it, my brother told him if someone wants to give you more than $800 for it, it's theirs, but we'll buy it Sunday. So what do you think? $800 for a fairly rust free, good running '98 1.3 5 speed 4 door with possible tranny issues that needs a little TLC. ![]()

98=16valves and 80 hp, you bet it sounds like a good deal. With a 1.0 and the 3.8 trans it will get over 50mpg and the 16 valve can go in a toy like mine.

I don't really NEED any more cars, but I can't pass up a good deal on a metro. My barber is selling one, so I might be picking up number 6... |

The seller had ~5 people check it out this weekend & they all turned it down so it's still available for us. My dad was out of town this weekend and scheduled to work his day off this week, so they're trying to figure out when to get it now. We're hoping people don't want to fuss with the possible tranny issue and will last at least through this week. They might make a special trip for it some time this week. If not, if it's still available this weekend, they'll go & pick it up. |

There was a guy on here awhile back selling his geo, within driving distance of me. No one wanted to touch it because of tranny issues. I was so set on getting it. Then he figured out it was low on fluid and sold it for three times the price. Glad for him. Sucked for me.

Got 70 MPG?

If so many have looked and turned it down, then you could probably get it off him for $700 if he's desperate enough

The only year for that was 2001. The rest of the sedans had a 5 speed option. |

The '98+ 1.3 5 speed was farely rare & why I want it in the family. That & it's a 4 door with A/C that will get 40+ MPG. I was planning on checking this out for myself this weekend & buying it, but it's not going to happen. New plan is my brother is going to take my Dad there on Tuesday on his way to work on my dad's his day off so he can drive it home. It's been listed for 9 days, lots of calls & visits, no takers. I think/hope it'll last 5 more days. The $600 XFi we bought was listed for ~15 days before we snagged it. |

http://fortwayne.craigslist.org/cto/3283532160.html I checked this out for myself last weekend and thought, meh. Kinda glad we didn't buy it without a 2nd opinion. I'll post pics later if anyone is interested in them. Hood has a dent & various small dents around the car, roof & trunk are fading/peeling, rocker panels are shot on both sides, rear wheel well rust is bubbling through on both sides, needs a new tranny, some oil gaskets need replaced, intake rubber is duct taped & driver's side frame horn needs welded. Interior was nice. He will not budge on $800. I suppose it's worth that, but not to me. It started right up, but as soon as I released the clutch pedel the tranny started making noises. Like my brother described. It sounds like metal on metal. The owner claims the tranny has the proper amount of oil, but I'm not so sure. It shifts through all gears, but I was unable to downshift into 3rd. It just grinded. Heat & A/C worked great, but will need a tranny, 4 tires & driver's side frame horn welded. The cosmetics don't really bother me, but the frame horn does even though I can get it welded. If someone wants it, I'd be glad to help get it road worthy. My cousin can weld it 30 min. away from the location. |
