Hi Everyone,
Have a '97 Geo 5 speed transmission. It shifts fine and recently put in a new clutch. Now the clutch cable itself is binding when depressed. So i went to junk yard got one. When i took it off the junker it came thru the firewall hole easily. Way it looks it seems it just sits on a pivot point of some kind. Since i didnt take it off from inside, im wondering how it goes back on in my vehicle from the inside. I looked up in there and about pooped my pants! Can bare see up in there, let alone work up in there. Looks like i got to take a ton of stuff out just to hook on the clutch cable end to the pedal. Im hoping its something easy and obvious im not seeing since i havnt found anything in the forums directly talking about this end of the cable. I sure would appreciate any help you "gurus" might have on this.

Thanks in advance!

You don't have to take anything off to get the clutch cable connected. It's tight quarters but it can be done, you must maneuver the pivot up/over and then down a finger/hook on the back side of the clutch pedal arm. You can't see it worth a darn but you can sort of feel it with a finger or two. Helps if you've got small hands (or a friend with small hands). Unlikely you'll get it to go right away, keep at it. The hard part is working blind with only a couple of fingers. It makes it easier if you've got someone who can also help from the engine bay side. Get the hook done first then bolt the housing to the firewall. Good Luck!

If you can get someone to push on the cable from the engine side it will give you some slack on the pedal end. Then reach up there with a long needlenose pliers and slip it over the top of the clutch pedal.

Thank you both so much for your help. Alas....i sort of figured thats how it had to be done, but wanted to stay in a state of denial. Actually i was hoping someon would say "Oh thats easy just go to Auto Zone and get a magic Geo CLUCH INSTALLATION TOOL for $2.95. It slips right on the very first try....LOL. So ok, Im devoting a few hours , a couple of beers, bone up on my curse words and have a go at it.

Thanks again,
