my nephew has a 91 Metro convertible. He has trouble closing the top even with 2 people. it is still above 80 degrees outside. Are there adjustments that can be made? we need to find a quarter inch somewhere.

Thanks

top probably needs replacement, which is not a hard task, it can be done in an afternoon... I would try to loosen up the strap at the bow above the rear window first...then try "Black Magic", soak the top with it and let it absorb it, close it when it's been sitting in the sun for awhile, this has helped out some tops I've had that were shrunk...try not to put too much strain on the top frame or you could break the front bow or the top lock plates at the top of the front windshield...they are getting harder and harder to find...

No magic trick and nothing to adjust. As the tops age the vinyl shrinks, that top needs replaced. When you get a new top don't try to mess with it below approx. 60F, vinyl gets a bit stiff, close it with the windows down so you don't tear up the weatherstriping. Good Luck!

When it was 90 + degrees a few weeks ago in Texas there weren't any issues,, but now that it is late summer... its still above 70 at night and high are only in the 80's now. The top itself is in great shape compared to other verts in the area i have seen.. I will assume its crappy vinyl . He is too cheap to buy a new top... So I will try the strap thing first... What will happen is he wont really care, probably leave it done 24-7 and even in rain... and not care... Then when it starts getting colder he will just rip it and break something.... And He will call me asking where he can find a new mechanism. Not everyone who went to college pics up common sense. lol.. Thanks for the advice...
