Can you visually look at rod bearings and tell which one is knocking, Or do I have to do the plast guage? Or can a rod journal look reall smooth and in good condition, but still cause a rod to make a knocking sound? Thanks.

Plasti-gage is the easy way to measure bearing clearance. 0.0008" - 0.0019" is new limits. Service limits is 0.0031". Plasti-gage will give you matches for 0.001", 0.0015", 0.002" and 0.003". At least you'll know what range your clearances are in. This is with the green plasti-gage. Knocking rod bearings will leave a distinct polished spot on the upper rod bearing. This will be more difficult to see with the rods installed in the engine. Figure it out soon. The next thing that will happen, if you have loose rod bearings, is not pretty . . . ![]()
