I have a 98 3/5 Metro hatch with a 136k. It runs alright but recently its been leaking some oil. When it rains you can notice some puddles looking a little oily, but my concern now is the amount of oil on the oil pan and things. The newest thing is while I coast in a gear going down a hill or just slowing down I get a terrible odor of burning oil. The car sqeals terribly when I start it or when i turn my heat at on low idles. (like at stop signs) Any help with either problem would help.

Do the dirty work and clean the engine compartment and engine to find the leak. The squealing is probably from oil soaked belts. If they are soaked they will not last long before they break. When they break you may or may not hear them. Prevent future and expensive problems now and clean everything.
good luck.

Yep, time to clean up. Then when you see new oil trace it back to the source so you will know what you need to fix. Common leaks are at the distributor o-ring (drivers side of the vehicle), cam and crank seals (passenger side of the vehicle).

The squeal could be your alternator belt needs tightened.

Keep us posted.

wash it real good (REAL GOOD), then drive it a couple of miles, and look closely for signs of motor oil (or transmission fluid) and you might have to get under the car to find the signs

then go uphill in your search for the source of the fluid (pics help on the forum)

there are several leak sources that can cause you to smell that smell
