So, new CV Axle/shafts went in yesterday, Duralast $70 each lifetime warranty - Old driver side axle had bearings that were loose and noisy, but functional. New CV seem to go in fairly easy - improvement on Steering Wheel Shake, (SWS) i.e. less frequently but still at higher speeds. However, new CVs have added a new shake to the car. Not sure if CV, or install(er) error, so, tomorrow we take out New passenger CV and replace with Old CV. Passenger side 1st because no train-oil leak on dismantling. The new shake is only in 2nd gear, & only accelerating from 10 to 20mph, straight or turning. NOT decelerating, NOT if you hold speed constant at 15MPH, then shake subsides. The shake is like a dog, it appears to start in the right hand corner, again only while accelerating in 2nd from 10 to 20mph, gone by 25mph, and then the shake, more like a slow wave, passes through the entire car to the rear, as if by a Rear wheel drive shaft, or a dog that shakes its head and it passes all the way back to the tail. - oh, new 6 month old Clutch and machined pressure plate - So, any ideas, or ones previous experience, would be greatly appreciated - bad CV?, user error?, etc. |

2 new CV axle/shaft install was a bust. Not only did Steering wheel Shake continue, but new CVs added a 'wiggle' when powering up 10-20mph. Put old CVs back on, no more car 'wiggle.' - (oh, took out NEW CV from passenger side 1st, no train oil leak, and that eliminated 80% of 'wiggle' next took out New Driver side CV, replace with old, & that eliminated the rest of the 'wiggle') Old CVs do have slightly 'loose' bearings, but will live with that for now. |
