I just posted few pictures last night and someone told me that one of the pictures was the EGR, well the eger was missing a bolt? well I have been trying to figure out this popping noise? NOW since the egr runs off the exhaust, Im thinking since it was missing that bolt, that is were that exhaust sound was coming from? Im I correct? And when the car was under load the sound would be louder, could that one bolt be the reason for that sound? Thanks, I have included a picture of the bolt missing from the EGR. Now im thinking that has got to be the culprit?![]() |

Very likely that is the origin of your noise. There is a gasket that goes between the EGR and the manifold, replace that too. Good Luck! |

With the bolt missing, and a corrupt gasket, I'm pretty sure it would make some noise. It's an exhaust leak. Clean it up, replace the missing bolt, and get a new gasket like IdMetro says. Clean out both engine passages as well. A drill, with a frayed cable, and carb cleaner works great. Should be able to work all the way through to the exhaust & intake manifold. Heads up, your car will run like crap until the cleaner is burned off. No worries! It will love you later.

Thanks, I will do, It SUCKS I took the whole engine out just to figure out that was what was making the noise? I Knew it had to be an exhaust leak, but could never find it? now I have to clean the oil pan and put everything back together. But hey, At least I found the problem. CAN I JUST BUY THAT ONE GASKET AT AN auto store or do I have to make a custom one? Thanks |

Probably not pull off the shelf, but yes. Pretty cheap. I pick up 2-3 at a time from Rock Auto. I know I'll be back in there at some point. Making one might be tough. The new ones, that I have, are metal laminate type.

I have been able to buy just the EGR gasket at my local Advance Auto. Not always in stock but typically they can get it within a day or two. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_egr-exhaust-air-supply-gasket-felpro_3208060-p?searchTerm=egr+gasket |

Yeah, that can be the source of the noise. From the picture it's obvious exhaust gasses were leaking at the gasket interface. |
