. Okay, I stopped by my local U-Pull-It yard today, and they just got in a 95 H/B. As luck would have it, it has a hatch release cable. Questions: 1 - Will a cable assy from a 95 H/B, work on my 94 H/B? 2 - What all do I need to grab? Is it all what is connected together (release handle, cable and bottom striker) or do I need also the upper latch that is in the hatch door too to make it work on mine? (Tucson members... I call dibs!) . |

I've got the release for my 93 from an 89, someone else will have to chime in to let you know what kind of compatibilities you have. You'd need the cable, the lever and the latch (it has an extra arm for unlatching. There's a place to attach it on the floor next to the normal driver's seat. You'll need to do some trickery to have it anywhere else. |

I don't know about the years compatibility, but make sure you grab the little white plastic things that the screws for the handle screw into. Once you pull the rug up, you'll see what I mean. Also, remove them CAREFULLY! I sliced the hell out of my hand once on the skinny metal things the plastic bits on the carpet go over. |

. Unless someone else chimes in and says not to worry about the hatch latch, I will grab it too, in case it is different from the one on my car and needed to make the release work. Was quote $9, for a sought-after part I've seen on eBay for $75.

. Good call on the plastic screw inserts... I planned on getting the screws too, but would have left the inserts. . |

It will not fit. But you could grab it and sell it on here, typical price is around 40, with shipping. You would need the hatch release from an 89-1994. |

. Just my luck... thanks Scoobs. What about the hatch latch? Is it needed as well to make the whole thing work? . Edited by 94RHDRollerskate, Sep 29 2012, 08:21 PM.

. From what has been said on here, the H/B unit is too short to run in a sedan. . |

Sedans have their own trunk release set-up. I had one, with latching gas door, but I sold it at Geopalooza... |

The reason people say you need the latch is for the MK5 cars (98-01). The handle and the cable are the same for MK4 and MK5, but in 98 they went to a two stage release mechanism in the latch that defeats the inside release. Therefor, if you're picking up a GEN3 (MKs4 and 5) (95-01) inside release it's smart to get the latch. If it's for your own car and you have a MK4, it's not needed. In your particular case, you have a MK3, and you don't need it either. All GEN2 (MKs2 and 3) hatchbacks use the same handle and cable Edited by Woodie, Oct 1 2012, 04:10 AM.
