I recently had to split my trans casing to find a part..long story. I have something wrong but cannot figure it out. I put it all back together and got it snugged up to the block and hooked the linkage back but now it will not go into gear. I can put it in first but thats about it. Its a 98 3/5. Anybody got any ideas??? I followed Dr. Bill, in re-assembling, on a link someone on here told me about but something is not right.

Can you move the shifter freely or is it very stiff? If stiff most likely you used the reverse gear bolt for the gear shift interlock bolt. They are about the same size :) I found that out the hard way. Other than that, if it physically won't go into gear you are probably looking at another splitting of the case.

First I said a prayer and then I checked inside the triangular plate. I took the yoke out and flipped it over and put it back in and quickly realized from no movement that I originally had it correct. I took it back off and and put it the way I had it first. I got into the car and it seemed to be shifting correctly. This weekend when im off i will put the syncromesh back in and put it on the ground to make sure its right. The power of prayer.....Will send a follow up if it works right. Thanks again guys
