Got a automatic transmission for my 96 geo metro and am about to install it. Before I do (since I have this all out) I want to make sure there are no wear parts I should be replacing. I have two torque converters. One came from the previous transmission (70k miles) and the second came with the transmission I bought (158k miles). Do I just use one of these or should I buy a new converter? Also, there is an orange ring that looks like a gasket of some type where the torque converter butts up against the transmission. Should I replace this and if so how? Here it is in this picture... ![]() Thanks for the help if you can give any. Jason |

That is a manual transmission, not an automatic. |

Because he does not own a digital camera or have access to one, and was not able to upload a picture of his so he used an example. Much like I would do if I wanted to see if anyone had seen a metro with the back end chopped off, like this one. |

Output axle shaft seals are not hard to replace, if needed. Remove the seals, take them to the auto parts store to make sure they get you the right parts. There are official tools to install seals. Check youtube for something along the lines of transmission axle seal installation. |

Also I don't know if these have them, (seems some of the newer cars nowdays don't) but the tranny filter wouldn't be a bad idea. |

Yes, they do have a transmission filter. Best would be replace it, fresh fluid, replace all seals. That way, you're covered. Assuming you are putting in a known working transmission... |
