215/35r12 DOT Golf Cart Tire (!)

Just found a 215/50r12 too.

These are DOT rated golf cart tires(ouch!) However they can be 4-ply and ARE rated for highway use.

There is a lot of talk about using NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicles) on roads posted no higher than 35 mph.

Load rating on these tires is around 800 lbs which would easily carry a Metro.

Of course where to get the wheels.

Anyhow, I was trying to find a DOT spec for speed rating for these but could not. There was some reference to B and C DOT ratings for these tires. Again could not find more.

Interesting Topic I think,
Tom

Looks like they are 4 x 4 pattern from the lack of description?

Yes, they are 4 bolt.

I did some looking around and the Austin Mini guys talk about these tires every so often - they're waiting for someone to try them and report back (!)

Frankly, I'd just like to handle one. If the sidewall is 4 ply and has some substance, I would try them - especially when how obviously crappy low end 12's are to begin with. Just about all of the ones I have have ripped plys with bulges, bubbles, and ridges in the tread area. Like how much worse could they be?

Try Thunderer brand 12's..... 8 ply rating, and 65 psi max sidewall pressure, with a weight rating of 1350 lbs @ 65 psi

He would not use those rims on the Metro. That's the way I understood it.

i thought you had it right in the first place......"GOLD CART TIRES" seemed right, since standard 12's can be found for 35-40 and fit stock rims. hmm, $400 bucks, gold, yea, they must be.

Depends where you look. None of the tire places in my town carry 12s, and the one place that could special order them wanted a little over $100 per tire, plus mounting balancing and all.

@anyone paying $50 or more ea for 'standard' 12" tires.

maybe a group buy is in order! when i find a good price, i buy. K-Mart once a year close out is a good resourse. got 7 for $125, cash n carry. not allways going to do this well, but most big shops are happy to move 12" inventory.

come january i will look into a tire buy. . see what oil prices are then.

i will NOT go through CHINAmart, but i am sure that one of the major parts houses may be interested in the buying volume that GMF is.

i dont think i will deal with the hair rippn ordeal of a project like a hose kit, (super HI-FIVE Chris), but one size peroid, maybe.

come january, i will start with it. my friend Dave is the mngr of carquest, and i can get a good idea from there.

13" rubber is common enough. 12's might offer a savings.

sorry, snowy, dont think i can find you any "HERO" brand tires any more!!!!!!!!

see ya in jan. steve out
