GEO Bashing

i have seen several referances to GEO Bashing. the latest was in a 'for sale' ad. I just cant relate to this what so ever. my experiance has been quite the oppisite. just yesterday i was confronted, twice. both were folks who wanted to verify that it was a METRO, then "does it REEEaly have a 3 cylinder engine?" do you reeealy get 50 mpg? both were info sponges. both wanted to know how to get one.

i was at the chev dealer, a couple months ago, and when i came out there was a group standing around my car. my first thought was, " oh shit who did i piss off now?" turns out they all LOVED my little "Booger". they all were great, had the hood up for a half hour, the group grew as people wanted to see what was up! one would have thought i just took delivery of a brand new vette.

that GEO bashing must be a California thing, cause i have NEVER run into it anywhere i have traveled.

although i am not the type of person to be too heavily influanced by others opinion, i would not sell my metro/metros due to someone elses stupidity. not that their opinion is stupid, but Geo bashing is.

same goes for law enforcement. i was even let go, when i was clocked at 71 in a 55, i did not deny speeding. the nice officer even asked me to "try to keep it under the posted limits".....obviously with tongue in cheek.

in fact, the only "bashers" are the guys who work for me, and each would buy any i would part with. all work as my eyes and ears to find more. Hmm..

am i the only person who does not get this bashing?

what is everyone elses experiances?

I get giggles and chuckles but no real bashing. Biggest laffs come from explaining geopalooza? I guess they cant believe that there are other geos still left besides mine. And that we get together and enjoy it . And that im NOT embarrassed to own or operate one of these fine little gems.

I have people asking about mine all the time, but most of the interests comes in the RHD part and the conversation and interests usually starts with "Did you bring that thing from overseas?". There's bashing for Metros, but I would bet money everyone who does wishes they had one. Especially come fill up time. I also get comments about my 'got mpg?' rear window decal.

I will admit... when I was in the market for one, I joked around saying I would tint the windows dark and park in the next lot at work. But after getting one, I pimp it proudly. Unless it's raining, both windows are down.

I agree with geopet, never had anyone bash it but I wouldn't care anyway. Asking for time off to attend geopalooza did bring about some strange looks from my boss but he thought it was cool. One of the guys I work with bought one new in 93 and drove it everyday till the frame horn on the driver side gave up a few years ago. I've also had a couple of my buddies ask me to help them find one.

No real bashing. Maybe a couple "wow's" or giggle describing the Geopaloozas.

I usually tell them there are 3 types of people in the world..... :news

1) Those that drive a Geo :drivin
2) Those that wish they could drive a Geo :(
3) Those that had a Geo and wish they could find another one. :smackface

:cheers

My shop always has five metros inside, and appears to be a metro specialty shop (it is). People are always stopping by and taking a tour of my metro world of ev metros, fuel saving metros, and of course the show metro in my signature. I sometimes fire that one up and shake the metal roof of the building with some jl audio... Anyways, people seem really interested in metros, and seem to want to buy one of mine. When I refuse to sell, it makes them want one even more.

Always good comment. Especially EcoMudder. Had a Sheriff stop at my house just to see it.

I get it a lot. But pretty much everyone I know drives a huge truck (I have a truck too but I hate to fill it up) and has a machismo complex.

It is a fun little car. Not much to look at beyond 50 feet, but unique and fun. I like being different.

I get lots of smiles and good natured fun about it's size, # of cylinders and such right up until we start talking fuel mileage and their smile sorts slides off their face to be replaced by a semi-dazed look of disbelief. Like the rest of you folks, I laugh all the way to the bank.

People I know and work with razz me a little about my metro"s but they always ask if I want to sell them,(most of them have motorcycles, all with larger engines)...when I park at a store, I can usually find a business card or note in the wiper arm with a name and number asking to call if I'm selling...and the only weird thing I notice is, EVERYONE has to pass me...no matter what speed I"m traveling down the road...they feel compelled to pass the Metro...
