Okay, get in my 1991 Geo metro 4dr hatchback today. I let the emergency brake lever down. It goes down the light goes off but the brake didn't disengage. Please help! I'm going to take off the tires and manually disengage them, but why didn't they disengage?? |

20+ years of rust, crud, & use. A couple good smacks, with a dead blow hammer or rubber mallet, on the Hub, Not the Rim, should free it up until you have time to scrub, lube, & service properly. Just don't use the e-brake, again, until you do. And Welcome to the Party!

Hi, Thanks for the help, I took all the parts of and wire brushed them clean. How do I lube the E brake cable at the bottom the connects with the brake, and with what? Also I don't think the wheel cylinders are going back in all the way when I push down on the regular brakes. Also I'm having trouble putting the brake assembly back together, is there a diagram somewhere? Thanks for the help |

I can't help on a diagram, I'm sure someone has one. I took the cable off the axle area and held it up as high as i could and blew in some lube, then just kept working it back and forth till it was free. |

Look at the other assembled brake assembly for reference. You are working on them one at a time, right?

Of course. So I got that problems resolved, now I have a new one. I got the E brake cable working and put everything back together using the other as a guide. Put the drum back on and the nut and screw it back in now with the tire off I spun the Drum. It spun free no drag, so I spun it again then hit the regular brakes. It stopped like it should. So I let go off the brake pedal then try and spin it again and now there's drag. Well I did the whole thing over again and there is drag again. I can't seem to figure it out. Please help! |

How much drag? Your brakes probably self adjusted themselves. That's what they're supposed to do. A little dragging sound is fine. Just burning off some crud. Hard to turn, like half locked, would be bad.
