I would like to put a couple of blinking LEDs into the door frame of my workshop as a theft deterrent. I want something small and battery powered. I figure that they do exist but I have been unsuccessful in searching for one. Any ideas?

Yes, I would rather buy something for $1.99 than to build it myself.

We're getting in to Christmas season. I used to find these all the time on Christmas cards and cheap decorations. Look in your local greeting card isle, you'll probably find something that works!

Hmmm, that isn't a bad idea. Wonder what the battery lifetime is on something like that?

I think Radio Shack sells a blinking LED...just add battery and maybe a resistor...

Battery life probably isn't very long on something that comes in a greeting card, but it's running off a 377 or smaller watch battery. Hook a D cell up to it and I'll bet it would go for years.

I think they already sell what you need pretty cheap. Maybe something like this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/FAKE-ANTI-THEFT-AUTO-ALARM-WARNING-MODULE-LED-2-WARNING-STICKER-DECALS-/221117481809?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337ba10351

These fake cameras have a flashing led that is motion operated and flashes for a minute or so then cuts off. Can be made to be a permanent flash I dont know but maybe.

Heres something from radio shack. They have more for less.

You could buy a cheaper security system, either, www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com has a wifi capable camera system for a pretty good price, theres also one with a dvr that you can do both, play back, and watch it from wifi and over the internet via Ip

$11 fake camera with blinking LED. run wires externally to a dual D cell holder and you would probably only have to change the batteries once a year.

this ones only $5
