I have a GPS speedo in One of my cars. Your factory one is more accurate. A cloud in the sky, nearby building, tree, location and angle do change the rate of communication of the satilite . " Get it recalibrated!" Thought the satellite was telling me.. I have one in my truck ... It's accurate and falls behind after 55-60 got pulled over 78 in a 70... They clocked me at 97. Ever wonder why when they argue the GPS is always verifying a slower speed??? It's slower communicating than a cable, and sensor.. The cop did not write me a 97 mph ticket. He said they see variation between the radar and the GPS all the time.. He was cool. I gripe because I know the truth on it yet, everyone believes it right because " shit it is from outer space!!" Post all over the Internet. Just like in the 80s they said " the computer is never wrong". Well we identify errors everyday now.
Thought I would throw that out there...
PS my calculated rpm says the officer was right within 2 mph.... Go figure. Them satellites were not put there for us for free anyway....and the variation from rpm changes per location. This is a manual transmission .

This is a blanket statement based on one observation of a technology that has proven accurate time and time again.

A computer is never wrong, the programmer is.

Because you like GPS I use it . Math doesn't lie on rpm. It is also folly to believe it communicates accurately because you read what they sell. You dismiss as blanket but yet not explain a thing. Sorry but because I paid 400 for a speedometer it does not add up. Tell me. Running one for two years... I am making a blanket statement? It is more of a blanket statement to say "my speedometer is 5 mph ahead of the GPS " well most of them are because there is communication time. You would only argue that it is right because its the GPS.
Even when I drove with a tach.. I knew exactly when I was speeding.
My calculations are that correct.
GPS changes rate by angle and location : study geometry.
Radar and math says I am right. Rpm of the engine.
I have seen this varified by radar.

Blanket? Go fly a kite. GPS is blanket . And no kinding it's the programmer.
Thanks for acting stupid.

How do you account for tire wear in your calculations?

Very easy convert by tire inches to feet x pie .now take that number into 5280 . Rpm is constant minute a mile a minute is 60 mph so it is constant, so you can multiply it by gear ratio will tell you rpm at 60 mph. If you want to figure different speed , (ie 80 mph) multiply 80/60 (60 being the constant) I always varified tickets bang on from a cop... So

That's awesome, now how do you account for tire wear?

If you can measure total tire I believe it is better..depending on a tire wear wont account for much, or a wire out mud tire will be a ton!dont measure tire on the ground with vehicle weight... It expands out as you roll faster. This carries by brand also. ;) but all said and done even not accounting for the road tar still stuck to the tire....
(5280/pieD)xgear ratio x overdrive (if applicable ) = rpm at 60mph and you'll be in the very accurate ballpark with a level eyeball and tape measure... Now as far as GPS lag... It exists... There are people far and few in between that can explain why... Usually they aren't out selling these devices... Also makes a difference signal for area. When I we t to Waco it was bang on last week. Other times it reads behind in redneckville after 50mph.

GPS may be wrong at any instantaneous moment, but over the long term it should be spot on.

Calculating tire distance from unladen tire circumference is folly, tires squish quite a lot with weight on them. Tire wear will make a huge difference from new to bald.

I can't say how fast exactly but, redline in 5th on a downhill from flagstaff AZ to page AZ probably over 100, easily.

I have been clocked by a stater doing 105mph on flat highway. Didn't get a ticket, the cop was amazed that a Geo Metro 3 cyl could reach that type of speed. I have no Mods either.

On hwy 77 with Corvette behind me well he said 120 mph. My speedo does not read that high.On my way back from GeoPlaooza 2013 at 3am in morning no traffic in my gti. He thought it was a metro when I passed him at about 90 he run up on me and I mashed gas on down. Was still getting faster when let off to stop at rest area.He Pull up next to me and asked me what in the hell I had under hood in my metro! It was funny as hell with his reaction when I raised hood and he saw 1.3 Dohc. Then I told him it was a swift GTI cousin to a metro. He said he never knew there was such a Car.
