Thought it would be fun to look back in a year and read some predictions.. no politics, no explanation, just a guess as to what the highest national average will be between now and thanksgiving 2013. My guess is 5.89. |

$13 LOL / Probably $4.29 in VA I know you said no politics but I couldn't resist. Sorry. If we go at it with Iran, all bets are off. Who knows where it will end up then.

Not much different than the price now. In 08 it was about this high and went down a little after. I am speaking for my area only |

Well, I follow the whole oil supply thing out of compulsion. It is a sickness really. I am no expert though, just a newswatcher. From what I've learned, it all really depends on the economy. Conventional oil supply is flat with the exception of new supply coming online in Iraq. We have an oil "boom" all over the world right now but it is all unconventional, i.e. bitumen or shale oil. Unconventional oil requires high oil prices to be economically viable. Which means, really, that we are on an oil plateau. As the economy grows, oil prices increase, which stifles economic growth, which causes oil price to drop hence the "bumpy" plateau. My prediction is we stay close to where we are now given the economic woes all over the planet, especially since China seems to be slowing. $4.25 give or take a quarter (of course Tucson's cheaper than most of the U.S.) |

depends too much on political decisions to make an educated guess--will we ever build a pipeline from canada to oklahoma?? Will we ever open up for more drilling in the Gulf?? will we ever stuff a rag in the EPAs throat so we can build more refineries?? presently around $4 here on the Washington State Coast--one year from now? $4 |

Based on the observation that prices have probably peaked...these are about the highest prices I've observed... $4.81/gallon for regular $5.01/gallon for 91 octane $6.99/gallon for 93 octane $7.59/gallon for 100 octane (OK...the last two have been the same price for the last five years or so...) I think there are more peaks and valleys to come. Bottom line is that there is a finite supply of oil and we have already tapped all the conventional i.e. "cheap oil" there is to tap. The only new stuff is tar sands, shale, deep water, and otherwise "expensive oil" that takes a lot of energy to get. The more energy in, the less we get out and the higher the cost. This is the new normal and the reason we must shift to all the other various types of energy if we want to continue fuel economic growth cheaply - which is a whole other topic. |

It is very difficult to separate this question from politics, as I believe one party enacts policies which tend to make prices higher, while the other tends to do things that make it lower. Ask again on November 8th.
