Hey I've got a 1995 geo metro LSI 4cyl 3 speed auto 4door and I'm pretty sure the trans is starting to let go.

When it does I don't want to keep it, so I'm looking for options to swap to a manual 5spd or automatic with overdrive. I plan to keep the car it's otherwise perfect condition 85k no rust solid runner. I'm in pa right now and moving back to nc next year and I don't think the 3speed trans is up for that

I'm a mechanic by trade so tools and parts aren't a problem. what other options are there for this car?

The 5spd manual swap should be pretty straightforward for a mechanic. There is, unfortunately, no auto od trans that will swap in.

Look for a 4cyl 5spd car to get the parts from. Lower numerical gearing, proper axles, mounts and ECM. If you can find a rusty donor car for cheap it will give you everything you need.

That's what i was thinking. What years should i look for?

After the winters over the cars going to need CV axles, and i haven't got around to checking the motor mounts yet. I can pickup a new ECM for pretty cheap, under 100$ through our parts supplier.

Just got off the phone with a junkyard that has the transmission pulled, 250$ and they said they would let me come pull the rest of the parts i need for 100$.

I'm looking at under 500$ to swap to a manual and kill a whole nest of birds with one stone. Thanks for the info
