So awhile back my fiance wrecked her 1990 olds 98 Regency. This was an awesome running car, 3.8L automatic 4 speed overdrive. she ran up over a curb at 45MPH and bent a bunch of shit, we decided not to fix it but i kept the car for parts. Wouldn't it be cool to drop that engine/ trans combo into a metro? Compairing the weight of the two cars i don't think the MPG would drop too far, and i'd have almost 200 horse + O/D automatic. |

Go for it. 45mph into a curb/kerb? I imagine that would launch a car several feet in the air or do a end stand if the brakes were applied.

No but she pulverized the lower ball joint and yanked the control arm from the frame, tierod end bent to hell and blew out the strut. The rim was shot too obviously. I'm just thinking, it would probably take way to much work to fit that combo under the hood. |

Nope it wouldn't be very cool, it would be kind of gay actually. But by the sounds of it you might enjoy that. Maybe it'd get you some muscle in the back seat. |

Yep, same engine. Gm made a suepercharged version of this engine and i found a buick riviera with one, for 75$ they will let me take the whole supercharger setup and everything needed to run it lol. |

I used to have a 2005 GTP with the Gen III engine and supercharger. I think the motor name was L32... It's a nice car, you just have to get a good lower intake manifold gasket for the 2004 and earlier ones otherwise the oil and coolant like to start mixing around the 100K mile point. |

I believe so, GM used the 3.8 in a lot of vehicles. I would rather use the supercharged 3.8, been thinking about dropping one in my mighty max Edit: damn I'm slow on my phone Edited by reddevillhs17, Oct 16 2012, 03:28 PM.

If you did it it would pretty much have to be mid engine. |

The N/A 3.8L engines that had plastic/composite upper/lower intake manifolds had that issue too. Either way i'm going to use this engine for something, they're known for lasting to over 300K millage, tough engine and this ones only got 85K. It would make a kickass dunebuggy powerplant lol EDIT: Coche Blanco, yeah dropping it in the geo was just a brain fart, i wouldn't go that rout unless something happened where the car was destine for parts/ scrap yard because fitting that 3.8 in there would probably need some heavy mod work. It might be a fun toy once it's finished, but it's not going to get even close to the FE of a 1.3 Metro. Stranger swaps have been done before, but they involve building a custom sub-frame, and overcoming a lot of obstacles. Having been around these kinds of projects most of my life, I'll say this: Wrenching yards, garages, side yards are FULL of abandoned automotive project of one sort or another. Before starting, side down over a stiff tomato juice and draft up a detailed plan, and inventory of your skills, hours available, timetable, budget. I have personally completed some large ones, and have abandoned a few that in retrospect, wish I have never stated in the first place After you are done calculating worst case scenario co$ts and labor hours, multiply those, and your timeline all by 4. If 4x the cost and labor hours puts a knot in your stomach, start a more modest project. Maybe that eaton supercharger on a 1.3 <Google Search 'Hudson Boys Metro'>

There IS a geo out there floating around with some kind of mid engine GM v6 powerplant in it, but the engine of choice wasn't too great and the home made bodykit on it looks fugly IMO. |
