It might be a fun toy once it's finished, but it's not going to get even close to the FE of a 1.3 Metro.

Having been around these kinds of projects most of my life, I'll say this:
Wrenching yards, garages, side yards are FULL of abandoned automotive project of one sort or another. Before starting, side down over a stiff tomato juice and draft up a detailed plan, and inventory of your skills, hours available, timetable, budget.

I have personally completed some large ones, and have abandoned a few that in retrospect, wish I have never stated in the first place :smackface

After you are done calculating worst case scenario co$ts and labor hours, multiply those, and your timeline all by 4. If 4x the cost and labor hours puts a knot in your stomach, start a more modest project. Maybe that eaton supercharger on a 1.3 <Google Search 'Hudson Boys Metro'> :D

LOL. Yeah i don't want another project right now. I'm in the middle of building an oldsmobile 403 to put in an 88 Monte carlo SS, i've got a muncie M22 trans to pair up with the 403. That's where most of the project budget money goes.

Nope it wouldn't be very cool, it would be kind of gay actually. But by the sounds of it you might enjoy that. Maybe it'd get you some muscle in the back seat.

if you want to go to a lot of trouble then cage the metro and install a small block chevy 4 sp auto trans 9inch ford rear setup, mid engine. would be fun at the dragstrip but not very practical!
