My girlfriend and I are starting to do P90x, more of her idea than mine, but whatever. Anyway, I was not satisfied with the dumbbells you can buy in the store (expensive) nor was I satisfied with my adjustable dumbbells I have. (annoying and cheap feeling).

This is what I came up with:

Used two PCV end caps, some heater hose, 1" weights, and some PVC glue. I'm thoroughly satisfied. I plan on making several more sets of varying weights.

Thoughts, comments, criticisms, want to tell me to clean my desk?

I like the look and the idea of low cost. I do wonder how slick the heater hose might be with sweaty hands...

I don't think it should be a problem, but she hasn't used them yet so I will have to get back to you.

Total cost each is 2.75 per "bar" which does not include the weights. (for those interested in a cost)

P90x
My buddy and I drank beer and watched a P90X video one night. :beer That stuff is no joke! I was hurting after just wtching it! Go for it son, but don't think that you have to keep up with those guys/gals on day one.....or 30... I need to get back at it myself but P90X is a little much for me. :(

It's actually pretty easy to get started with, I was surprised. (and tired)

I love the budget dumbbells but don't lie to me Jake, P90X is nasty! If you guys can hang with 1/4 of what they do on day one of the first DVD I will have to give it up and say you guys are some tough MOFOs! Yes, it works but "easy"... no way! You are more than tired right now, if you are still even awake... Give us an update in the morning tough guy! :lol

P90x can be a challenge, so kudos to you CB.

The trick is (as they say in the videos), "keep pressing the play button" and of course follow the food intake plan.

I havent tried the "Insanity" workout, but i hear that it might be more intense than p90...not sure on that though.

Also, nice work on the DIY weights.

I want to say that they say it's more cardio and less strength training. :-/

I have both sets, yes insanity is all movement and cardio. Both are pretty tough, just in different ways.
