Tubablake - all Metros are a POS, that's why it's so cheap, that's why you got it. Metro is all about ROI (Return on Investment) and nothing else, it's a POS, get over it. If you totally rebuild Engine & Train for $3,000 + $2,000 cost = $5,000 for a brand new running POS that gets 45MPG. To get 45mpg, you would have to buy a $25,000 Prius or a $30,000 Volt. (BTW, I won't give $$ 'cause I'm still a little gun shy, but I bought '99 4/5 Avocado with 150k for $1,500 and after a complete rebuild chasing unknown issues, my ROI went from 1 year, 10,000 miles to 5 years 60,000 miles, now i'm married to the biatch - P.S. ROI just went down to 4 year, 50,000 miles with $5/gal gas) Although I will admit, being in school and work is not the time to have Metro issues. been there, done that, and it really really sucks. So if there is someone local that can get this kid limping along to school, that would be totally cool. I'd like to say "I built that" but I've had so much help along the way, I can't. |

Caveat Emptor I'd be amazed if you can get anything out of the dealer on a car that was likely sold "as-is"...$1700 is nothing for a used car in these days of California paying $1000-1400 to "retire" older cars. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't try...if you can get him to pay for some of the repairs, more power to you. As for time...there's weekends, and the holidays are coming. Thank you all for your replies. I took it to the dealer, they are fixing the gasket. What kind of oil do you guys use? I'm using 5w-30. With 148k miles do you think I can do seafoam? I was there when they pulled the pan and there were no chunks it, so that's looking good. So oil got all over the engine can I spray it with a sprayer at a carwash? is there anything I need to watch out for?? And for all of you thinking it. No the car was not sold "as is" I'm gonna do the valve seals this weekend. |

I wouldn't bother until you do a compression test. If it idles rough it probably needs valves. With 150K miles it probably needs valves and rings. Valve seals are the least of your problems. You paid too much for a fixer-upper, the only way you're going to get good value out of it is by doing all the work yourself. I see you got rid of your last car because you were tired of working on it. There are two choices when it comes to cars, you pay a shitload of money, or you do the work yourself. Time to choose one or the other, your expectations are unrealistic. |

Just gets kinda tiresome when you spend time and effort to help answer a question posed by someone just to have that person ignore your answer----time after time |

first you got no monies--then ask about fixing your motor mounts--after you get a reccomendation on how to fix them you indicate that you want to know which one to have the dealer replace---costs $$$--you got no $$$---the dealer will fix it free----then why ask us. now the same type things going on with valves flip flop flip flop------just dont know how to help you==want to help but not accepting advise is on your end not ours,,,,,,,,, Edited by Old Man, Oct 23 2012, 11:34 AM.

I always indicated that the dealer was doing this stuff for free. I'm sorry when I said I need to fix the motor mounts I meant I was going to replace them. Someone said to me to replace the valves so I will. I like to ask you guys because I trust that you guys no more about the metro than the dealer. |
