Has anyone here in the U.S. bought a Metro from someone in Canada? I'm interested in one but don't know the in and outs of buying a car out of the country and would like to talk to someone who has done it. |

I know it can be done and has been done. There's a Firefly that appears for sell every now and then, it was imported from Canada. As to doing it, no idea how. The original owner of that car was never on the forum. |

i'm pretty sure you can get the answer to your question by calling up a specialty car dealer that imports cars from foreign countries. heck, maybe they can even do some of the paperwork or tell you about it. |

You dont want to do that. The drivers side is on the passenger side, all the meters are in metrics and french and you have to have all metric tools to work on them.

I was wondering the same thing, so I called the DMV and was told (for Washington state) that you needed a bill of sale, title and when you some accross the border the border agent will go over your paperwork and give you a certificate. (forget what she called it) |

We are all left handed up here. Much easier to drive like that. ![]() I am kinda fond of Metric. And I love the French. |

That seems surprisingly simple. |

Not as simple as that but doable. Don't know how it would work out with door mounted seatbelts. The NHTSA might require them to be fitted to conform to U.S. standards in force at the time in which case it would have to be imported by a licensed importer who would do the retrofit and charge you a bundle to certify that the work has been done. I know several people who have done the reverse. Buying a U.S car or motorcycle and bringing it here. Requires at least three days notice at your border crossing coming this way. You have to forward a copy of the required paperwork to the U.S. customs at your point of crossing more than three days ahead of your return date. http://www.canadatotwincities.com/buy_car.html http://www.bordercenter.org/chem/vehicles.htm http://www.epa.gov/oms/imports/canadian.htm |

I use to have a thing for the hyjet trucks and it was hit or miss if you could register them in your state for street use. You needed a dmv with a dumb guy to do it.
