okay; so im sure that this has already been written up, but i havent found it yet, and am in the middle of the conversion. im presuming i can just bore out the holes in my 10mm brake drums to accommodate the 12mm's? having read a few threads, i got the impression (probably just misread) that you could just press in the 12mms in the same holes. i figured the 10mm studs must have been tapered down to the threads or something like that; but the 12 obviously dont fit the holes. what diameter hole do i use to bore out the holes? thanks; |

The hub & drums will need to be drilled. The 12mm will not fit in the 10mm hole. No such thing as "just" boring the holes. A lot of material will need to be removed. Drill press would be highly recommended.Comparison of 10mm vs 12mm ![]() If I had to do it again, I'd spring for a true 12mm drill bit. As you can see by this chart, http://bobmay.astronomy.net/misc/drillchart.htm there is no exact match SAE bit. If I recall, I used the 15/32, in a drill press, and then Carefully reamed a little with a hand drill. Press in the stud & seated with an impact.Take your time. Drill slow and use lots of cutting oil. On my pending 91 project, I'm using 95 knuckles, hubs, & drums. Disc rotors are larger and the 12mm studs are already present. |

snowfish; unfortunately im not good at 'preserving a record' of what i do; but i did get a couple pics of a quick 'shop press' i had to build to do this. turns out, 12mm bits are hard to find - i couldnt just waltz into hd/ace/osh/sears and get it. so, i just used 15/32 like you. usually i just press in studs with large c-clamp; but because of the undersize of the hole - that was not happening. so, instead, the pics below: ![]() ![]() rear wheels are on; need to get pics. next weekend (my weekend - wednesday/thursday); hopefully, the front go on. thanks again for the help; |
