I would totally buy a 2012 Suzuki Swift, but they aren't made in the US I'm really curious, how many people on this forum would buy a brand new version of the car we all know and love

Depending on how things pan out, I'll probably buy a 2013 Chevy Sonic. |

It all depends on mpgs, power, handling. I like the looks. Not really a fan of the wheels though. I could never own a nice car like that due to the fact that I like to haul car parts and other heavy items that would ruin that car. |

Those new fiestas don't look to bad either. I guess I agree with horn on the mpg, power and handling. Wait! did I just agree with horn on something? |

The swift has a 1.2 liter 4 cylinder and gets 56.5 mpg The swift sport has a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder and puts out over 130 hp |

If you really want one, you could move to India. They are quite popular over there. |

That is a shame that we can't get one here. Maybe we had to get these cars out of production here so that we could spend billions on hybrid car technology and get 52 mpg doing 55 mph in the left lane. 56 mpg tells me much... motor size, weight and aerodynamics are "real" physics at work. This is what gets mpg, not an ultra heavy hybrid. |

I think cheaply made means fewer materials, and that means less weight... |

From what I understand VW has a saying on why we don't get the new Swift here in the states. |

We're lucky Suzuki is still doing business here at all. I would not be surprised if they folded up their tent today. Also, don't get too excited over those statistics, they're European numbers and don't compare to ours. The test is different and their gallon is bigger, the numbers always look a lot better than ours. The Kisashi is rated 34 mpg there and 26 mpg here with the same equipment. Then, consider the fact that if Suzuki did bring the Swift here, it wouldn't come with that 1.2 litre engine. The 1.6 from the Swift Sport would almost certainly be the only one offered. Most US consumers would not buy a 1.2 litre car that weighs 2300 pounds. This is a much bigger car than a Metro, you see, 40% more weight. If it did come here, expect 40 mpg. If you want a car like the Metro, you need to shop further down the Suzuki product line. Skip right over the Splash, the next smaller car, the one which really compares would be the Alto. 1 litre, about 2000 pounds, the Alto is more a new version of the original Metro than anything else. |
