I have tried Hastings and Engine-tech (Probably the same as DNJ) piston rings but the top ring gap is at .018" out of the box. Gap should be .008-.016" top and bottom ring. Anyone have advice on a brand that will be in spec? I'm going to call a GM dealer for availability on factory rings.

Rule of thumb is .004" x bore top and oil ring, .005" x bore 2nd ring. So for me with a 2.91" bore, .012" top and .015" 2nd.

Then get Evergreen rings and file them down to your heart's content...

I have been playing with different ring gaps for years now. There are a lot of factors to think about but just make sure that you have enough gap! :thumb I ran some MONSTER ring gaps on an engine that I knew was going to see lots of boost and a good shot of nitrous. Never used any oil or had any compression issues at all.
