Having been employed by someone and self-employed over the years, I was wondering how other people have faired in either situation.
When I was self-employed, ran a small shop(just me) and did weekend work only. Usually had 2 to 3 times the work avalible to do than I had time for because I still worked a 40 hour week for an employer as an electrician. Most of the time I could easily clear in a weekend what I made during the week, depending how ambitious I was. Never had enough free time though.
Now I'm back to just being employed (electrician again, different state) only working on my own stuff. Once again, have no free time because I am the head electrician/programer and end up working 70+ a week since alot of the jobs the other electricians are not capable of doing themselves without being shown every time :banghead . Love what I do, but...here it is a perfectly good weekend again and spent the last 3 hours pulling out hair on reprogramming a plc network (once again tech support was wrong, go figure) when I should be home playing in MY shop. :shake . One of these days, would like to figure out what an actual 40hr week is like! I know I shouldn't be sniveling when so many people can't even find a job, but seems like someone must of figured out how to balance the work/play time schedule better than me :D .

I would like to think that I am pretty great at NOT working! :lol I have not worked more than 20-30 hours a week at most since "08. There are lots of ways to work less hours and have more free time for yourself. If I can do it anyone can I promise! ^o)

When I owned my own business I had the worst boss in the world to work for - he was a real SOB.

I think work/life balance is never perfect...the best thing I have heard so far is have LOW expectations. I live paycheck to paycheck and am employeed. I make less than I used to a while ago when easy money was spent on toys . :smackface

Now its blls bills bills and hope to build a stable savings with a solid budget. I love my current work though but have thought about working for myself... when it makes economic sense. If you enjoy self employment beyond simply cash....what profit you get at the end is gravy :thumb

I have yet to be employed by someone else,
Parents taught me from a young age to always invest my money, made my first investment when I was 11 years old.
Ever since I've had money adding up!
