Until yesterday my car seemed to be running correctly. Then while clearing the check codes that I think I had fixed the week before (code 14, cleaned the sensor and blew air through the small lines) I noticed that I had a code 13 too. I checked the O2 connection and the plug did look like it could be plugged in better. (I don't think this is related, but just trying to fill in the reasons for testing) No CEL on the way to town and back, but I had low idle while normal coasting with the fan on. Now the car starts fine and idles a little fast ~1300 (~1500 before) cold then in one minute it starts to come down and after three or so minutes is it is at 800. Fine right, but if I turn on the fan now it drops to 200 RPM or less... So what I am asking is what is supposed to keep the idle up during electrical loads...? I removed the IAC and can blow air through it (bottom connector), but only if it is slowly, fast and it shuts off. I have been reading different threads to try to fix this, but I don't have a fast idle, and it is fine till I add an electrical load, fan and or lights... Anyway, thanks for the help |

Well, the code 13 was for real... could see visibable crack in the housing after the nut. Replaced after work, will see tomorrow and or the next tank if things get better. 40.6 MPG last tank, down ~4MPG! After cleaning the IAC it seems to be better?? Still drops RPMs but not as much down to ~500, and doesn't sound like it wants to die... |

im not very good electrically, but there is a 'diode module' under the dash that when the fan kicks on tells the ecm which causes the engine idle to increase a bit. if it went bad (can it go bad?) it would seem that there would just simply be no increase in idle - and not the massive dip you are experiencing. if nothing else seems to solve your problem, maybe just try unplugging it and see what happens when the fan kicks on (if the diode is working fine, would probably make your problem 'worse'). |

thanks mauurgp, I guess if the ECM did not see a change it would not try to do something different... I don't have a manual yet... any idea where the 'd. module' would be located, I know these cars are small,,, but... |

unfortunately, i dont have a pic of it, but it is under the dash, behind the fuse panel. it would probably be a pain for you to get to; i dont know, i never tried while i had my dash on. it has about a 5 or 6 pin connector going to it, and off the top of my head, it is probably .75" thick by 1" wide by 1.5" tall. on the side opposite from where the electrical connector plugs in there is a little grey cap that protects the capacitors. hopefully that is a good description and i dont lead you astray. good luck figuring it out. |

was doing a couple odd and ends in my car yesterday, so was able to take a couple pics. turns out, i had the coloring all wrong. again, i have no clue if i am heading you down the wrong path at all or not, but thought i would just finish up the thought, just in case you get desperate and it becomes worth a shot to you.![]() ![]() |
