First, let me thank all of you for the great info I picked up off this forum to rebuild my G10. Been back on the road driving my 94 metro now for 5 months, getting 38-40 mpg and loving it. Recently though, the engine begins running rough and then dies occasionally when I'm coming to a stop at an intersection. I usually throw it into nuetral just before I stop and rev it to keep it alive. Only when coming to a stop then ideals perfectly without a miss. I'm thinking fuel issue, but hoping someone out there may have a place to start looking. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. |

Been experiencing a similar problem and have been posting for help with a couple replies. Title of thread is "fuel system diagnostic help posted by posgeos If your idle speed is really low you might crank it up a few rpm and see if it makes any difference. It might be loading up when you come to a stop. Good luck. |

I've also been experiencing a similar problem, I had a mechanic diagnose it a fuel pressure regulator problem. Metros are supposed to be 20-23 Psi I think, while mine was running at 13-18 Psi. Maybe run a fuel pressure test and see what kind of numbers you get? |

my 89' escort had the same problem. I fixed it by swapping out the entire throttle body with one from a junk yard car. That year Escort was CFI (central fuel injection) like the Metro is. If you can find a donor car it is a easy swap. |

No such thing as "loading up on decel" on a EFI car. Tps must be out of adjust. |

I had this same issue, but the car would either die when idling at the stop or die as soon as i pressed the gas. My issue turned out to be debris on the butterfly valve inside the throttle body. The dirt was causing the valve to not open properly so I guess the car was choking out when I pushed the gas. All I had to do was take the fuel injector out and spray some carb cleaner inside the throttle body and all over the butterfly valve. Hasn't died on me since. I got the car for 200 bucks because the owner assumed it was a fuel pump problem. |

A burned #2 valve will cause this symptom. How many miles do you have on the engine? At 135K most metro engines have burned valve issues. Not all metros, but quite a few develop a burned valve.
