Driving the car home tonight and the engine dies at the same time the check engine, oil pressure, and battery lights come on. Had to put a quart of oil in it to get it started and it still didn't want to stay running. What is wrong now????? |

All of those lights are going to come on anytime the engine stops running. Did you put oil in because the dipstick said it was low, or were you just thrashing around in desperation? Did you really get it restarted, or did it just crank over faster than usual? Most common problem when it just quits like that is a broken timing belt, but if that was the case, it wouldn't start. |

I put oil in because it was low. My oil pan gasket is leaking. The lights scared the shit out of me. I did get it restarted but would have to rev it to keep going or it would shake like crazy then die. I'll check the timing belt just to be safe. |

Same thing that was wrong two days ago when you posted this: It isnt going to matter how many different posts you make the answer will be the same ************************* Tubablake: 31 Oct Okay compression readings(I double checked on these) 1 cyl- 135 2 cyl- 102 3 cyl- 102 So now what is going on and was answered this cwatkin: 31 Oct Those are not OK compression readings. It seems this engine is just about due for a rebuild! Compression is definitely low and at least part of this is related to the rings if excessive crankcase pressures are blowing seals/gaskets. How did the wet test look? Do that. If the numbers come up a great deal, you are looking at an issue with the rings. If not, the valves are also bad. Are you consuming oil besides the leaking or not? If not, your oil rings may not be too bad. It definitely seems you have a compression ring issue. |

maybe but consistent low compression can also be caused by , incorrect valve timing OR clogged / stuffed exhaust it would be more likely that 1 or 2 cylinders would be close to "good" and 1 or 2 cylinders would be close to zero it is possible for all three cylinders to have poor compression , just not likely UNless the engine was overheated and is now just a lump of pooh |
