Ohhh okay, carry on. :thumb (I've never had A/C in a 3 cylinder Metro, so I don't even know what the power loss is like)
before a/c 49~55 Hp after a/c What HP?

From the sanden SD7B10 curves, if I read them correctly, is ~ 4 HP for a compressor RPM of 3K.
http://www.sanden.com/originals/images/SD7B10_Performance.pdf

For my pulley ratio of ~ 1.4X engine crank RPM, at 3K engine, compressor is turning 4.2K and per the graph that would be ~ 4.2KW or 5.6HP.

Anyone know what the engine RPM is for a 1992 doing 65MPH on the freeway?

I'm not sure what compressor I have on my Swift, but when I had it charged, I did find it noticeable when the compressor kicked in and out. Definitely noticed the drag. Not as bad the OP finds it, but noticeable. This is the first 4-cylinder car I've had with A/C in a long time, could be normal.

BTW, my diminished coldness was not from a leak :cheers but rather my recirc/fresh air switch cable had come disconnected. Once replaced I'm back to frosty again ^o)

Grr

yeah little cars take a pretty big hit with the AC. my 89 tracker has a very noticeable "drag" when the compressor kicks on and its a 1.6L 4cyl. !

does not effect the mpg much on the highway (still get 35mpg) but has a big effect on the mpg local drive (32 to 28)

Wow, a great read GEOz...AC weather coming so I was reading up on this. So many little things can go and not let the AC work. Gets over 90f in my area a lot, so I like AC. Yep I can feel it when it kicks on.
