Anybody know of ways to get valve guides out on the g10? Any tools or special procedures? |

I think you will need a press. They are in there real tight. |

I want to say you can pull them out with a paint can opener...but I may be thinking of another car.

That would be the valve seals. The guides are in there. |

Press them in or pound them in? I've been quite surprised how much force it takes to press something in or out but pounding them in/out is much much easier. Have also found that if it isn't perfectly straight, with a press you can really screw things up where as pounding them in they tend to straighten out and go in correctly. |

Head should be heated to about 250 F to remove and install guides. Make a tool that will stop the guide at the correct height (match the old ones) when pressing in. You don't have much time before the guide heats and locks up. Pressing them out or in cold is not such a good idea. Cool the guides in a freezer or with dry ice to install. If you dont rework heads for a living then I suggest for the valve guides to take it to a machine shop and for a few bucks let them vat the head and put in valve guides for you. You can do the rest. Most of the heads I have seen the guides look good. |
