When looking at an Xfi...

What should I be looking for? Thinking of checking out an Xfi that's about an hour away from me.
Anything I should be checking for other than what should be checked when purchasing a car?
Only asking since I know(or at least I think I know) the Xfi's are a little more... unique? than a normal Metro.
thanks in advance.

If they're trying to charge more for it being an XFI, try and make sure it's authentic.
MS in the VIN instead of MR, passenger side mirror delete, no black trim around the back windows...
Doubt they'd let you take the valve cover off and measure the camshaft with calipers :lol to make sure it is a real XFI cam...
If they're not charging any more than any other Metro, the standard buying a car list should do...
Oh and look up the thing on how to check the transmission ratio by jacking up the front of the car and marking the tire and doing the engine revolutions thing... I don't have a link handy, but somebody can post it... That way you can make sure it's got a 3.79 like it's supposed to...

Not all XFi's will have the mirror delete, it was sold in states where it was legal to not have a passenger side mirror.

I'd assume you have to have a passenger mirror in Cali but I don't know for sure.
Edit: looking at a pictures, and this Xfi DOES have the passenger mirror

Take your metro over when you go to look. remove both engines oil fill cap. eyeball both cams. they should be different.

Can't you verify the camshaft just by looking in the oil cap? I thought the Xfi cam had more pointed lobes compared to a normal car.

XFi cams have a little less lift and duration, so the cam lobes appear more "pointy".

Logic is all that is necessary.

If his cam looks the same as the one he is buying then it is not an xfi that is for sale.

Question: How many miles is too much? One I'm looking at reads 19,000. it's a 1991 so I'm guessing its 219,000. Can't know for sure and the owner doesn't know since he's owned it for only 4 months.
he wants $1700 (got him down from $2100) and will only go lower on the price if he cant sell it buy the end of next week... This has passed the Cali smog test, looks pretty nice inside.
He has 2 other Xfi's. He's keeping one and putting the other on ebay. And this one (that I'm looking at) that he emailed me due to my 'wanted' ad on craigslist.
How many miles do you guys think this one can live for?

All depends on maintenance, history, ect. If it has 200k+, it could have had the engine replaced, it could have been perfectly maintained, it could have been neglected. It could have sat for 15 years. Miles don't tell a lot by themselves.

By the way, I have a 91, with 30,000 on the odometer, and according to the title it should be at 130,000

IMHO, it really does not matter with these cars. Metros are so cheap and easy to work on, the only thing you need to check for is rust and wrecks. Anything else can be fixed! ;)
