Noisey valve train.; Noisey valve train.

Ok guys, I got a problem here....Since I changed the crank in the white geo, I have had a whole assortment of problems from this beast. And the green geo too I might add. Lets start with the white geo first.

Ok, first I had an alternator bottem bracket break on me. No problems in getting it fixed, except it broke the water pump too, the "new" water pump that is. :smackface Got it all sorted out, then one of the spark plug tips somehow managed to unscrew itself off the spark plug. :ermm: And then finally I had a valve die on me.....Its weird, cause it doesn't look like its burnt, it looks....broken?

Anyways, I fixed it and put everything together. But that is where the new problem crops up. When I took the head off, I just took the head off and unplugged/unbolted evberything from the intake and exhaust manifolds instead of trying to take them off. It seemed preatty damn simple, and in fact I had everything taken off in less than an hour. Sure enough, bad valve, I replaced it and put everything back together and got it started up less than a few hours ago. However I now have a heavy knocking/ticking noise in the valve train closest to the timeing belt......Admitedly, it does not appear that oil is makeing its way to the valve train......Whats going on here, is it the blasted head gasket? I used autozone, but bought the felpro as I prefere them. If it is, can someone provide a picture or a link to a picture? I need to see it to understand it.

Oh, and as for the green geo, Ill just say heater core and post in the heating and A/C section. :die :die :die

Tried messing with the torque on the camshaft nuts. Seemed to help, have to work on the exhaust now. :P

What does that mean? :hmm Are you using a Torque Wrench? :hmm Cam Bearings are 96 Inch Pounds. :news

96 in lbs or 8 ft lbs....Got a very old school torque wrenchthat does ft lbs, but I prefere the needle and gauge style anyhow.
However the problem is the socket. I only have a socket that can fit the middle bolts, the bolts with the long threads for the valve cover won't let me fit it, so I had to guess them. I went soft, and extra tight with a small hand wrench. I got it now, but Im still kinda unsure. Rather noisey without the valve cover on. With the valve cover, it seems quiet, but the exhaust is kinda loud. Pondering about that right now, cause I have the exhaust hookup to the muffler preatty tight. Going to attack it again here in a minute, but its time for a smoke break dangit! :stoner

Done with smoke break, took it for a test drive, POS is deffinantly got complications with the valve train, however Im becomeing ever more highly suspect that the head gasket is goofy. Getting some white smoke out of the dipstick, but the oild looks and feels clean of radiator fluid.....Im probably going to take the head back off and ensure I give everying a good twice over. But that is for tomarrow.....anyone else got some ideas? Ill dig for the correct socket tomarrow, just didn't think it would cause THIS much noise if I was off by a few in lbs. >.>

any clue if accidentally mis matching the lifters would cause some noise?

Get two 6MM X1.0MM nuts and thread them onto the long valve cover studs. Lock them together and then use a regular shallow socket to tighten up the studs. No super deep socket needed.

Is there oil collecting in the well in the head? It should have some oil up there if you have run it long enough to have driven it.

OIL IS THE PROBLEM!

For shits n giggles I took the valve cover off and ran it for a little bit, it is not slinging oil and upon inspection of the cam bearing surfaces, there was only assembly lube still sitting there, freaking out I come back again.

Ok guys, any ideas on why oil isn't getting to the top of the engine, but the oil light goes out?
Im looking at the head comeing back off and some holes being made in the head gasket for right now. >.>

Did you put the head gasket on wrong? Is your oil pump new? Maybe the oil galleys are dirty?

Did you put a new oil filter on after your work?
