Boston Acoustic SE45

Just got some Alpine 4" for the front of my '91 convertible, but they are a little tall for the speaker grill to fit on right. Is this the reason everyone likes the Boston Acoustics? Are they low enough to allow the grills to fit back on flat? If so I will probably buy a set for the front and hope the Alpines fit better in the back.

Bump again... Somebody should know the answer to this.. Would like to order some SE45's if someone can verify they are flat enough to fit under the front speaker grills on a 91 conv.

I don't have any experience with the Boston Acoustics, however I do think they are an excellent company with great products, I'm sure you'll be happy with them. I did not have to trim the grills for my Polk DBs but I did have to for the Kove 4"ers I replaced them with.

I have a pair of SE45s installed in the front dash in my 94 Geo 2-door hatchback and the original plastic grills will fit over them okay.. This isn't a convertible I know, but I thought I'd give my 1/4 cent.

If you're still trying to find the answer to this, hit up Crutchfield.com and see if they have them, if not, they do keep a pretty good archive on what fits/doesn't.

After 5 years I'm betting they found their answer or learned to live with it.

I had some full range Cove 4" in the dash that had some real high performance specs. They had great suspension with lots of cone travel. HOWEVER, they simply could not handle the ass when played loud. Assuming you have speakers that will handle the bass better, they need to have some bass cut-off.

If you have speakers with stiff cone suspension, the bass portion of the signal wouldn't be a problem since it wouldn't be reproduced anyway.
