Service Engine Soon Light after oil change; Are they related or just a coincidence?

So I just changed my oil, but a trickle charge on the battery (battery seems pretty weak), and changed the spark plugs...and now my service engine soon light is on.

I thought it was just a regular maintenance light, and thought it could be reset. But after doing some research, I guess this is the only check engine light that the car has.

Does the computer read voltage from the battery? Would doing any of these maintenance things throw a code? I guess I should just go to Autozone and plug in their OBD-II reader?

Would it be safe to drive tomorrow?

What year is your car?
In answer to your question about the computer reading battery voltage......if battery was low...your battery light would come on.
If it was low oil pressure, your oil light would come on.
If Autozone will read your CEL for free......I'd take it there and then report what they find.
As for taking it to work.....I'd drive it...and take it to Autozone before or after.
Then again...it's only 5 miles to my work.
Anyhow....we'll leave the light on for ya.

check any wiring that you might have knocked loose during the oil change such as the area around the oil filter, oil fill cap, and oil drain plug. And any area you might have put your hands to pull yourself under or out from under the car.

The light did not come on this morning! It got me to work just fine. Maybe it was too cold last night and it didn't like it. Thanks for the help guys.

I noticed that if I leave the little connector that goes to the air filter cap, my check engine light freaks out immediatly......Best I can tell you is to get the code reader to check it {OBD2 usually stores all codes} and to recheck all your connectors. Heck, just wriggleing them can sometimes set off the check engine light. :P
