I just changed the engine out in my 1990 metro the new engine had a bunch of very different emissions junk on it so I kept the original intake and distributer. Now I have two error codes. 31 and 41 can anyone tell me the likely solution for these two codes? The engine is weak on the hills so I'm thinking I should change the fuel filter again since the car has not really run in 6 years.I changed the oil and filter, air cleaner, antifreeze, cap and rotor. Ideas?

Check to see if you connected all connectors to the map sensor and the vaccum line to the intake to it as well as the intake. Is the distributor you are running vaccum advance or not?

The distributor was changed to the vacuum advance type because I assumed the cars brain would read everything the same as before, so it is the original distributor the car had. The vacuum lines are hooked up but the short fat hose that goes from a connection on the intake to the air cleaner and the valve cover does not line up at the valve cover this line is open since I am not sure how to fix it. Could this cause the pressure sensor problem? What is the ignition fail safe anyway?

I remembered one of my other metros had the correct hose so I changed it and the PCV valve at least I think that's what it is. The code is still there though I don't really know how to clear the codes.

Disconnect your negative battery cable for a minute and reconnect it. This will clear your codes if they are no longer active.

Being an vaccum advance distributor chances are you left a needed wire unconnected going to it and thus causing your code. Check for disconnted wires.
