Got a 92 plan jane and was thinking about having the motor rebuilt. It burns and leaks oil so I thought it was time. Went to a few shops around town, (tucson) and was told it was to old and they could not get parts. Does this sound right? Is there anyone out there who can help me out? I can travel about 500 miles to your place to get the work done. HELP!! |

500 miles? Not quite far enough to get to my place. How's the weather in Tuscon? |

just getting over a cold spell. Got down to 30's at night. up to 70's in the day. Should be getting back to normal in the next few days. Now, what do you charge to do a rebuild? Not sure that's what it needs, but I need something done. The local shops say the motors aren't worth rebuilding. and they can't get parts. Here's what's going on. I got the car last spring. the guy said he rebuilt it but got the wrong head gasket from the parts house. It blows oil into the pcv and than into the carb. Now It leaks big time out of the gasket around the lower pulley that drives the belts. You can tell I'm not a machanic. and if I add oil I leave a pretty bad smoke screen for a while. and at times when I start out in first it does a shutter . but not all the time. I love the metros!! Can you help? Thanks |

70's during the day is good. If you have a low mileage, unmolested engine, it might need rings and valves. I've seen them all. The latest engine that I disassembled needed the block bored, the block decked, the head milled, the crankshaft ground, the crankcase align bored, and the connecting rods resized. The term "rebuilt" is the most misused word that I have seen used in reference to the G10 engine. All of the above is a good description of rebuilt. Rings and a valve job is a refresh, if that's all it needs. You may have a defective PCV valve. It should freely pass air one way and not the other way when you blow on it. Not even the best PCV valve can stop the crankcase from over-pressurizing when there is excessive combustion blowing past the piston rings. Can you find out exactly what the previous guy did to the engine? Machine shop work, etc.? I'll send you a PM with details. |

I replace the pcv ever few weeks. It get clogged up. Not sure what the last guy did. He told me to keep the dip stick out a ways and that would relieve the pressure. |

The crankcase is pressurizing too much. Most probably, the cylinders, rings and pistons are worn beyond limits. Give me a minute. I'll see what the factory service manual has to say about crankcase pressure. |

I agree, rings at least. Maybe a piston if things are reeeally bad. |
