So I am hearing a tapping sound coming from the valve covers. My buddy says I need to adjust my valves, but from my research, there is no possible way to adjust them, because I have hydraulic lifters.

I'm not really sure what this means. Could I have a bad lifter? What would it take to replace? I have replaced a cam and lifters in my 350 V8, so how hard could it be???

I'm thinking if I remove the valve cover, and tighten down one of the valves, I should be okay. Sorry I'm kind of all over the place, but is there a guide to removing the tapping sound? It seems like this is a pretty prominent problem.

if its just tapping, the lifters may need rebuilt because they're sticking.....

Got 70 MPG?

If you can do it on a V8, then this will be a breeze.
Take the timing cover off.
Air filter hat
valve cover
cam
Then you're there.
How to rebuild the lifters.

It is either a broken spring, sticking lifter, or loss of oil.

Take off the valve cover, and let the diagnostics begin! :P
