Monkey see, monkey do. Chimpanzees are mostly vegetarian: they eat fruits and stuff like that. While studying chimps, observations of large male chimpanzees have took off after a little animal, a Thompson’s gazelle, or something similar. Much to the chimp’s own surprise, he caught it. Well, in playing around with it—like a cat will play with a bug sometimes—the chimpanzee killed it. Sure enough, he just went right on, took a swipe at it and sampled the flesh, and he sort of liked it. The other males in the group gathered around and began eating on the carcass of this Thompson’s gazelle. Sure enough, they liked it. So, a behavior that started kind of playfully became a practice for that particular tribe. They would go off in groups and hunt some of these Thompson’s gazelles.

Research has shown over & over that vegetarians live longer than those who consume meat.

:D I'll take a shorter life as long as I'm top of the food chain. I have no problems with vegetarians, to each their own, I just prefer to eat a chunk of meat over anything else.

Seriously what is the ratio of people who eat shit food, and look and feel like shit ?
What about the people with great healthy diets.

I haven't been sick for several years. I get headaches and every once in a while the shits. If I feel like crap for a day it is usually due to too much alcohol.

I have a bottle of vitamin c pills. If I think I am going to get sick, I will start taking those. I have some b12 vitamins just in case my shingles come back. It actually works very well.
ever try just eating oranges ? you will have more vitamin C than you can absorb in pills and it tastes better

i used to eat oranges all the time, like 3-4 a day. didn't get sick or not for very long at least. got tired of the taste.

the area of the world with the most people living over 100 years is an area of japan. everyone there eats meat. it's mainly fish, but they eat other meats as well.

a well balanced diet is the key to health. cutting meat out of your diet unbalances your diet. there are lots of things in meat that you can't get in other places. the way your body works when it absorbs nutrients, to put it simply, is it takes what you give it, disassembles it and then reassembles it into what it needs. if what you give it is farther from what it needs it will not be able to put it back together as well and if you don't give it the right building blocks, like you're lacking something in your diet, say certain animal exclusive proteins, there's no way it will be able to build it. if you are vegetarian or vegan there are many things your body needs that you aren't getting. you can only get them from meat or synthetic sources.

i guess my iron deficiency caused from no meat is giving me an iron level of 170g/L tested on tuesday. normal levels for men are 140-180 . :smackface
i guess all those japanese on the traditional diet of 100g of fish a week are really eating 'lots' of meat. which is mainly starch and sugar based, low fat :banghead
video of traditional vegetarian japanese diet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp1fSCYc5Z0

i'm glad there are so many experts on nutrition out there (and on this forum) who can tell me about how great living an unhealthy lifestyle is for me, and themselves :thumb :smackface :smackface :smackface :smackface :banghead

if you go somewhere and you tell everyone how great it is to not eat meat, people will tell you how great it is to eat meat. i didn't start this thread to ask people their opinion on what to eat or whether or not to eat meat. i have always eaten meat and always will. i started this thread to talk about medication. let's see if we can all pitch in and get this thread back on topic. first person to mention diet after this post is a :shit head. :P

i got some prilosec and will be trying that out tomorow probably, didn't eat anything all day yesterday to try and stop the :shit. all i ate today was some pizza and a slice of cheesecake, once i start eating a lot again i will take the meds. i'll also try the things suggested in this thread, like the baking soda i think it was (i'll check that later). i don't really want to do the tums, i don't like eating that many tums, and i'd rather treat the problem than the symptom.

hopefully whatever i try next will not end up nearly hospitalizing me again, the doctor and nurses said i should go the the emergency room, but they thought it was a disease not side effects causing the symptoms. i figured i'd give it a day because i was certain it was side effects and it was. they even gave me some anti biotics, but the side effects on that were diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, and vomiting so i passed on it.

naturopathic medicine is a real science - very specific mixes of certain medicinal plants can be just as powerful for certain diseases as pharma pills. A licensed, chinese medicine trained PhD can do a lot of good. Watch out though, as there are tanker trucks full of snake oil out there. Keep a skeptical approach but definitely look at Naturopathic options.

The older you get the more meds you need to keep you from hurting.

While working on the Geo (just changing plugs) in March of this year I blew out my back and cracked the cartilage in my hip. I had to have back surgery and there's no fix for the hip because of advanced arthritis. I went to the Dr and found out I am diabetic, but can control it with diet. The dietitian recommend a low carb diet. (controlled bread/flour intake is the big one). I have lost more than 10% of my body mass in the last 90 days and take several pills. But it's nice to be able to walk without pain....at least for short distances.

Better living through chemistry.

PS
If you take pills that make you feel crummy, take them when you go to bed and you won't know it
