I don't think you can get a car from a wrecking yard and salvage title it

I have a car from the yard right now that they let us take home so I could finish my engine swap easier and the owner was very specific about bringing enough back for it to still be considered a "car" and with the VIN intact or he'd get in trouble with the authorities

when they take a car they destroy the title and the endpoint is the scrapyard

The salvage yard I work at will resell a car IF, we have a title AND title hasn't already been stamped as salvaged / demolished, OR car did not come to us from an insurance auction, etc with title stamped salvage only. I do all the title work & usually hold the titles for a little while just in case we want to sell one. PS, the vert my boss crushed that I posted a few weeks back was bought for $185 & driven in to us. He said he'd "let me have it for $800"" bad trans, overheating engine & all. I declined & it was crushed a few days later. Nice guy. :shit

Good bye

Complete cars bring $3-400 here at the crusher in Portland. The days of cheap cars are gone, I am going to have to pay over $500 just for a parts Esteem. 100 hp is probably worth it though. :-)

Like i have stated before if you want to keep a geo on the road you need to start saving good car. Up north they have the good running gear with rusty bodys, down south we have good bodys with shot running gear. we need to get these two cars togeather and save some geos before its to late. Just my thinking. :hmm

wish they'd give us that down here in southern oregon. scrap metal prices are down. called the crusher today and they offered me about $125 bucks for the '96 metro.

absolutely fresh fish

in ca, once a car hits the junkyard, the title is dropped - the car no longer exists anymore (as far as dmv is concerned). so it is not possible to buy it with any sort of title - slavaged or otherwise. the yard will sell you the whole car, but as far as dmv is concerned, you dont own a whole car, you own a whole bunch of parts.
you would have to go through all the paper work (and inspections) as if you built the car from the ground up yourself - a custom car.
