Probably not a bad idea but I have never torqued a spark plug. Never stripped one or had one blow out to my knowledge. Getting in the habit of torquing is a good habit to have. Maybe liz will be right up with it, she will be glad to have it in her Christmas stocking. |

Neither have I, but I am starting to work on others' cars and I don't want to strip one out accidentally. You know? |

A good idea would be to check your torque wrench periodically with a known calibrated torque wrench. I once used one similar to what is shown in the top posting, to tighten the bolts attaching the steering knuckle to the strut. Supposed to be 44 ft/lbs. Whaddya know, they came loose. Oops! Re-checked them with a torque wrench from work...at that time calibrated quarterly (they've since changed to annual calibration). They've been fine ever since. |

Your better off using you bare hands than a cheap torque wrench on spark plugs. Snug, then up to a half turn is all you need. If you want a real torque wrench get this brand. http://www.amazon.com/Precision-Instruments-PREC2FR600H-Drive-Wrench/dp/B000I1UOAM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1353734234&sr=8-3&keywords=precision+instruments Same manufacturer as Snap-on. |

Also, this isn't a Harbor Freight bashing thread, if you want to do that start your own thread.

The best torque wrench will always be this type http://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-TW-2-Torque-Wrench/dp/B000NVAHMW/ref=pd_sim_sg_1 Never needs calibration..Harbor Freight has them too. Edited by robertino, Nov 24 2012, 01:38 AM.

I like Craftsman, I've used craftsman since I could turn a wrench...so they are my one and only choice

And when you use them to break loose bolts, the point breaks off due to the beam snapping. That's when I learned you don't use a torque wrench to loosen things. |

Yeah but they got such long handles to get leverage on bolt or nut you are taking loose. Hmmm wonder if H.F. torque wrench best used for that instead of tightening spark plugs....
