This is like asking, "Would you still drive a Cadillac if it rode like a Geo?" |

Would I drive a street legal go cart just for the fun of it? Hell yes. My other car is a 2000 buick lesabre, and its not NEARLY as fun to drive. It would probably not be a commuter though. Edited by Oden, Nov 24 2012, 02:30 PM.

Well I don't know about the theft-safe part, Wild Ride but no I probably wouldn't drive one. I do like smaller cars but the compromise in safety is something I willingly do for the ease of repair/mpg. I'm speaking as someone who owned a 94 3 cyl/auto new and am still driving 96 3/5's. Hey, don't knock the Subaru Justys. Dumb name but awesome little cars. I had an 87 Brat, 30+ mpg in 4wd so even that beat the 27 mpg limit. Back then I thought the Justys were funny looking and I did wonder at the 3 cylinder motor. But don't forget, those Justys were made when Subaru's motto was "Inexpensive and Built to Stay that Way". They were as easy to work on as the Metros, parts slightly harder to come by though. |

Nothing like driving a street legal gocart, thats for sure. If it only got mid 20's, I would rip out the 3/5 and tube frame rear drive a turbo buick v-6 in it, still would get mid 20's. Shoot, my monza with a v-8 gets 26 if I drive nice.

Absolutely not. I love my metro but almost entirely because of the fuel savings. My turbo wrx swapped subaru legacy gets 24 mpg and its actually fun to drive and has a lot more room in it and I can go up a hill in 5th gear with ease, even with the ac on when I'd be in 3rd in the metro with the ac off. |

Its an awesome design. I've owned one and I loved it. It was smaller and lighter than my 98 metro, 20 more hp but it didn't have 4wd so it had to go. The engine design though is garbage as far as the water pump and timing belt area are concerned. |

No, I would just go back to putting miles on my E30, which actually does drive like a go-kart, more power, much more safer, just as easy to work on, and parts are obtainable straight from the dealer. Similar pricing, too. In fact, when I was initially looking for the second car for us I explained to a few people that the only reason to buy another vehicle was if it doubled the fuel economy so it'd pay for itself over time. My search included older rabbits, metros, and diesels before I finally decided that a metro was the best option. |

Thanks! It's an '85. My whole reason for buying this car was to drive it every day but instead it went straight into the garage and almost never gets driven...

Does GMF still exist in this crazy world of 27 MPG Metros? If so, yea I would still drive it. If not... I'm 100% out. There are a TON of cool, safe, fun, cheap, good running, and good looking cars out there that will get 27 MPG. Here is my new 27 MPG DD:
