yep, i'm back.... North dakota is quite the treat this time of year! we ran out of materials, so we had to come home. the oil BOOM is really something, McDonalds in Williston is advertising for "shift leader", starts at $18. EVERY business in Minot and williston is hiring. rent is out of site though. we are staying in a man camp, (= old FEMA housing), $ 5400 / month. yes that is typed correctly. an appartment, 2 br, can be found for $1500-2500, if you are dilligent.

i will have to go back in a couple three weeks, till sometime in jan. up to 6 weeks of work left.

on to the important stuff!

thought i could get the head off the vert, change out the valve, lap the valves and good to go.

no such luck! valves all look good. pistons can be wiggled around with just one finger. thought the compression of 120/120/40 was going to be a bad e-valve #3. weird, #2 +#3 pistons seem to match in color and carbon, but #1 is entirely different. there are some "sand paper" marks on the head, but it has not been milled.

thought i could get away with the "happy meal" special, to get buy for a year, till i can clean up other stuff, but it will be the Full meal deal. the head is already off, so i should have the block out and to the machine shop later today.

i'll keep yall posted, if i go AWOL, it just means i'm back in ND. land of the never ending wind.

any members in the Minot area? always lookn for something to do on my day off. (sun)

ps: looking at a couple metros in the area, several around Minot, NO road salt in ND. steve out.

We came close to moving to the Williston area. Wife had a job, but no housing.Obviously would not have worked on the measly $10/hr she was going to get. :rofl

nice to be home, for as long as it lasts!

thanks for the welcome.

Mrs. sp...'s ride has kept me hop hop hoping. Thought i could get away with a valve job, BUT, BIG BUT, not a chance!
pistons easily move a 1/16, with no effort. so...
block is out. MaMa needs a solid runner, w/xfi cam, and a couple of other suggested "improvements". Good news is that the horns look better than expected. cleaned away the flakey paint, and happy! With the engine out i can clean everything up nice.

I hope everyone had a happy TurkeyDay, and a productive huntn season!

maybe, maybe, she will let me bring her to Hayfield in Aug. ? but then Barney would be so pissed.
