You made the right choice. Congrats on getting the hell out of there! Oh boy, if there is one thing that I can NOT stand is feeling like I have to explain my way out of something that I did not do in the first place. There are more jobs out there i promise... Good riddance! My story? Haha, I had a part time job at Advance Auto as a driver. I made killer money(yea right ) but I liked what I was doing. After two years of showing up at least five minuets early EVERY SINGLE DAY I cut it close one day and was only two minuets early... I cut a joke with my boss(also my friend): Man, I though I was going to be late today! We had a good laugh and he told me "I would't care if you were late"... At that point I told him that I had some things to do first thing the next morning(24 hours away) and that I probably would be a little late to work. He said that was fine. Now, keep in mind that I put this off untill I knew there was going to be another driver in that morning so everything was covered. So fast foward to the next morning... Sure enough I am two towns away and and I am supposed to be at work in ten minuets. Boss man said it was okay yesterday but I still want to call and tell them that I am going to be a few minuets late. What happens? I get my hair(what's left of it) blown back! What??? So I make it into work and still the same thing... It's like the world was going to end because Dan-O showed up ten minuets late! Wow, did not know how how big of a deal I was!!! I shook the hands of my coworkers and walked out the front door with my head held high. First time in my life I had ever done anything like that and I have to say....it felt GOOD! My boy did not speak to me for a whole year but now we are back friends again... Man it feels good to rant! |

What really made me mad is that I called him out and told him to ask the guys who I work with. Nope. He wouldn't do it. I really think he was scared of being wrong. The guys I worked with were about 10 feet from us and probably heard us. I texted the guy I usually ride with and he said the boss said he mentioned my numbers and I just got mad. lol
Are you talking about wal-mart TLE? lol. I use to work there and the same exact thing happened. I saw a guy smash the screen on a balancing machine because he had too much. Then they put a manager in charge that was more worried about painting the shop than helping customers. I had enough after that.
I know you were. I would recommend going to truckmountforum.com.....they are a carpet cleaning website. Lots of smaller guys there and you could find a local guy in your area. Some Stanley Steemers do good work and have good employees. Some have quite the opposite.
You actually won there! I would have said the same thing. Doin pushups in a war zone.....douche. |

Dan-o, I completely agree. It seems that if you set an example of doing good work and then have one day of ok work, they notice and call you out. The guy that always does ok work seems to get the "good jobs" and gets breaks. Believe me, I have plenty of reasons to get yelled at. lol. but when I don't do something and get yelled at about it, it fires me up. ******Just want to clear up that I am not bitching about all managers/bosses. I have had many great ones. I worked at a place that I didn't really like, but the owner led by example and was very appreciative so I had a good time and liked going to work.******* |

So Horn, it looks like it's a thread for bad bosses who should not be in their position. That's pretty universal. Dilbert is not just a comic strip and despair.com is more truth than any company would care to admit. IMHO. Recently I was let go from dishwashing at a golf club house. I was told I was too slow, by the chef himself. I was never given a time line, list of duties or even told I was too slow. I was always faster than the dishwashing machine. The young lady who trained me was also let go and I come to find out that the chef didn't make it through the summer. I worked for a guy as a driver, with the forest service during a forest fire. One day I was resting on a table in the office put my head down and fell asleep. Nobody told me it was wrong, everyone was tired from 10 hour days. I woke up hearing my name and I got sent to take two medical backpacks to the fire line. I got to the drop point and NOBODY was there. Spent 30 minutes finding the MOVED site and delivering the packs. I was gone an extra hour and a half. Boss calls me on my scheduled day off and tells me I'm not needed anymore. Then asks me if I stopped and took a nap in the passenger seat because he found the seat back leaned back farther than when he left it. I wrote: What sense would it make for me to take a nap, get out of the perfectly comfortable driver's seat, clean out the stuff I had in the passenger seat, sleep, then put the stuff back and drive? And more stuff that didn't make sense.Perhaps you've read my truck driving failure and the bossing managers. I have problems with stupid authority. But I worked for my intelligent newspaper editor for 10 years; and even though he was controlling, didn't like my stories, and even after he fired my wife. Working with and for people is pretty much the catch 22 of keeping a job. Seems more and more it's about being a good "fit" be that a lazy S**t that everyone loves, a brown noser. or retentive.

I used to manage auto tire/service shops in soCal. We had a big meeting at a hotel where they trot out their new idea of selling ATV tires. Everyone there is kissing ass about how good an idea it is and I stand up and say "This is a terrible idea. We know nothing about ATV tires and even less about ATV tire buyers. We have to invest in new tools and training on said tools. We're gonna break the customers stuff and make a feeble profit on an item with terrible margins. My store (most profitable in the region) is literally right next door to an off road shop filled with 8 guys who eat-sleep-breathe ATV... This stinks of a company circling the drain." I lost the store I was promised so I quit and went to college on the GI bill and never looked back. tl;dr I was right. *EDIT* I should add that they were doing all sorts of things to screw with us. They even had a class action lawsuit filed against them (they paid up) about not paying the proper amount required for working a job where you supplied your own tools. Yeah talking about TLE horn. I enjoy the work, most of my coworkers, my two direct managers. The higher on the ladder you go though, the less they know and the more they order. I have an assistant manager who says he can do any tire job in under ten minutes. I watched him spend 5 minutes trying to get a seat cover in a car. That one was great. Now my direct supervisors, they're alright. Both are fairly lazy, and one has an attitude problem, but if it comes down to it they'll be out there with us working on cars and getting dirty. We can be three hours backed up, and we'll never see a higher up manager help. If one of them show up, its to complain or to pull us to help someone else in a different part of the store. |

hmmm.....let see. Actually when I left wal mart, I was just young and dumber. The first year, I had no problems really. Then they switched the manager and it started to suck. I worked at sears for a few months and it wasn't really a bad gig. I just didn't agree with a protection agreement that they really wanted us to sell. Its hard to sell things when you don't agree with them. I left early, but on very good terms. The manager directly over me was actually pretty good. I've heard bad things about working for sears. Like all places, it all depends on who you work with. Coche you mention pizza hut. Should we put that on the list? lol |

No Pizza Hut was a fine place to work, if you don't mind intentionally underachieving. |

Opps, forgot to say what I do-do. I talk trash which as is the culture around me. I say Ill get x number of sales. I wont quit til I Get another sale, my sales havent come in yet. Also learn about dragging people under the bus. Also positioning yourself. You can see this on the Aprentence where someone puts themselves in a setup so they have the easy way out. Like they will say they dont like an idea. This way if it fails they can say I didnt agree with it and therefore saved. On the other hand Ive walked off 3 jobs. One after my shift after I had a new one that afternoon and it was a call center like the one seen on The Office, the other one Sunday morning before the job started as the boss started to tear into me at Sears. I had a new job a week away to start. I just handed the man my name tag and thanked him for the opportunity. His jaw was wide open and he had nothing to say. Third one I got a promotion at one job and a smart ass asschewing, so I just cleaned out my desk and left. He too had his mouth hung open, speechless. Til this day people say me and the owner had a disagrement and no one knows over what.
