My wife pointed out to me the real reason I have too many cars (current count is 12). Every time I decide to sell one, typically put it on Craigslist which in the past has worked fairly well. Once posted though, it becomes a marching diary of flakes, a#*holes and retards on at minimum a 10:1 ratio of lunatics to sane people calling, texting, and emailing about said car. After about a week of half price offers, will you trade for (insert broken piece of car here), or show up and spend an hour looking over car to say "so, will you take payments for the next 6 months?" I loose my last ounce of patience and just keep the car. Think I am going back to the old sign in the car method before I get the urge to throttle these idiots that show up. Maybe I'll have better luck at clearing out the car lot around my garage that way! |

LOL. I just sold my 2004 Maxima on Craigslist. Ofcourse, I got the Nigerian Prince emailing me, and the person asking if I'd take payments for a year! Unreal. Thankfully it sold, but I had to sift through all the riff raff contacting me! Edited by unplugged5150, Nov 27 2012, 09:50 AM.

I say "sure ill take payments". Then tell them I will write up a contract making the price be double what I'm asking and put stipulations saying the car and title stays with me until all payments are received and that if the deal falls through I get to keep all payments previously made. Have both parties sign and each gets a copy. That will hold up on the peoples court or judge judy. |

Just make sure to put in your craigslist ad 'NO PAYMENT PLANS, NO LOW BALLERS or no reply. Want what I'm asking or best offer.' That's what I do and seems to work. |

When I have a successful CL sale, I save the ad in a Word Doc. That way I can copy paste it back in when I need to sell something else. The standard stuff goes at the bottom like you said. No payment plans, no low ballers, clean title in hand, no nigerian royalty, CASH only, etc. You gotta spell it out for these people. |

Your post sounds exactly like something i would have typed. I've got 9 vehicles, same reason. Much easier to buy than to sell to dip$hits. |

This is typically how I post on CL 19xx Geo Metro LSi ($800) San Diego Up for sale is my 19xx Geo Metro that I've owned for x amount of years. Has this and this wrong with it, this and this recently replaced. Is currently inspected. This is the price, no lowballers. I only speak English so if you dont, too bad. No trades, cash talks. Clear title in my name Have a nice day ![]() Pictures (usually 4) In my experience if they ask how much I want for it (and the fu<%ing price is right there!) then I hang up almost immediatley. If they have NO grasp of the English language and call me "dawg" or "fool" then *click*. If they say trade I say did you read buddy? Sheesh man, people on that place get under my skin Edited by aaronvincent, Nov 27 2012, 11:50 AM.

I've got the other end of that issue - a car will show up on Craigslist and I will call first, email second and then repeat the process at reasonable intervals until I get a response. Sometimes the response never comes... or "it's being held for a few days for another guy"... The title is in Nigeria but should be here shortly, meanwhile the ad stays up on CL (do people do this just so they can get contacted by others???) or (fill in your own stupid reason here). Whatever happened to the understanding that a used vehicle was bought as/is where/is by the first guy to show up with cash in hand, reach an agreement with the owner and became the new owner who gets a clear title and a bill of sale as proof of the transaction? |

Yep, had that issue too on looking for the last metro I bought. What is sad is that if you list anything pertaining to the above sentence in your add, it either gets flagged consistantly or people call up, ignore everything written in your add then get mad if you ask if they even read the add.

This is an excerpt from an actual ad I posted on Craigslist in 2008. I was selling three old Mercedes diesels for $2000. I had several people email me just to tell me how much they laughed! Not to sound like a jerk, but in order to keep from wasting each other's time I should state the following: --Again, I will NOT sell any one car separately. --I will NOT accept your counterfeit cashier's check from Bangladesh. --I am NOT interested in selling these cars to you for scrap for $200 each. Wanna buy them for scrap? Fine...they are chock full of high-grade steel, aluminum, and iron. But the price is $666 each.:) --I will NOT trade these cars for your non-running '82 Buick Regal and a can of soup. --I am NOT looking to donate them to charity. --I am NOT parting them out! Period. Please don't ask.:) --Please...no tire kickers, broke people, veggie oil daydreamers, charity cases, etc. Be serious, please. Please email if interested, and I will get right back to you. If you want me to call you please leave a number and a time to reach you. Need more pics? Just ask. Thanks for reading! I guess you just have to be very specific about what you want. |
