I just came across somebody who has an OEM set of 12" wheels, with the oem GEO hubcaps, lugnuts, and (he claims) original Good Year tires with about 1000 miles on them. Tires have no dry rot...??? He bought the car new, then immediately put 14's on the car. These have been stored in the attic ever since. Worth buying them as a spare set if i can get them cheap? has 145/x/12's on them. |

Sure. Steel is worth 9 cents per pound. The center caps are worth $50 - $100 per set, but don't tell him that. $5 to remove the tire, and $2.50 to dispose of the tires. I would not recommend using a tire that is that old. You can check the DOT date code on the side. 4 numbers. The first two are the week of the year, the second two are the year. 3304 = the 33rd week of 2004. It's only worth buying if you think you'll be needing a set of 12" wheels. Center caps are no longer available. There's definitely some cool factor involved with this deal.

Original tires with very few miles? The tire rubber is old....and will have hardened up. I wouldn't run them. Too much risk of a sudden blowout IMO. Given the speeds people drive in the Lower 48, I'd say no thanks. |

150 is too much, in my opinion. |

No one in their right mind would install and drive on tires that are more than 5 years old. I'm surprised that you would even suggest it. Offer the guy $75 if you think you can use the wheels and wheel covers. Otherwise, forget it. A lot of guys ditch the 12" tire/wheel combination due to the lack of readily available 12" tires for a reasonable price. |

i'll probably pass on them. unless anyone on here wants them, i can make him an offer and just give them to you for whatever price you want to pay. they belong in a museum i guess. very neat, but no value. |

I'd start negotiating at $10 a wheel. He's got no use for them. Nor, the ambition to sell them himself. |

I would run them with no worries. If theyve been stored out of sunlight they are fine. You can tell that by cracking. If they do have cracks then judge for yourself if they look like the tread will separate from the carcass. If not run em. I had a truck for 10 years that I never changed tires on. Drove across country twice on them no problem.

As long as the tires looked ok, I would probably run them. I'm more worried about something else breaking on my geo anyway. |

I know the people who supply tires for the indycar series and have specifically ask them this question. UV rays are what degrades the rubber on tires. As long as they are stored out of the sun they are fine. Get em cheap and run em. |
