So I've been playing with the idea of running a geo with two engines and two transmissions. Normal engine setup up front. Second engine/tranny combo in the hatch area running the back tires. Second engine has its own ECM, battery, starter. Push start for the back motor. T the fuel line to run to both engines. One brake pedal. Slave the clutch pedal to work both transmissions, and the throttle pedal to both motors. Have two shifters, next to each other. The second shifter has a bar attached to it, that can swing around and attach to the first shifter, slaving them together. So you would drive on the normal engine, and whenever you felt the need, shift into neutral, slave the shifters together, hit the push start on the second engine, and take off with two engines at once. Thoughts? |

If you're doing it for the unique-ness, go for it. If you're doing it for power/handling/etc. don't. |

Hmm...two engines in a Metro seems like the answer to a question nobody asked. |

you would have to make sure without a doubt that both engines would be at exactly the same rpm constantly..... otherwise it wouldn't drive right |

Simply cut the front end off another metro and after hacking your car in half, weld the front of the other car to the rear facing forward of course and then your set. We were planning on doing this with EcoMudder if I need to. |

WAY easier to do than custom fab'ing the whole setup with the rear wheels. Chop the body of the "rear secetion" flat and make it a raised bed for a two-engine Geo Truck. Would be a little more useful, but with two front ends you'd have true frankencar

Interesting project... You wouldn't have to worry about the same EXACT RPM since the drive systems will be independent. This will adjust itself but could still see this leading to funky handling for sure. Definitely make sure you have them in the same gear. I wonder if you could use an automatic trans setup in the reat and a manual in the front like you describe. I have also heard that is it bad for some transmissions to freewheel in neutral for very long with the engine turned off. I assume this might be the case in an automatic but likely not the case in a manual. Does this apply to anything here? Conor |

The automatic isn't recommended to move in neutral. It has to be running for the transmission fluid to flow. I think it'd work best with two manuals. |
