I'm not saying electric turbo chargers are a good idea, but Subaru sure seems to think so...

Sadly, any sort of "forced air induction" Must be actually "forced" into an engine.

As for the e-bay scams, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T DO IT!!!!

I have seen every car related stupidity on E bay that any man could ever dream of. Electric turbo, super MPG and Preformance computer tricker, a fuel line atomizer/ionizer/magnetizer/rabbit in a hat trick, and more.
All I can say about them is that most of them are either a useless hunk of junk that just add's weight to the car and lightens your wallet, or worse. Ruins your car. I actually helped a guy figure out why he kept blowing up motors in his 87 sundance, seems that "high preformance resistor" he put on the engine coolant sensor wires was telling the computer to dump huge amounts of gas down the throttle body. Enough to actually wash the bearings out.....Everytime one blew up, he replaced a $300 junk yard motor. He should have just saved the $19.99 and left things alone.

Now, with all that cleared up, if you do want some extra HP, a turbo, and for free/ next to nothing, you should look up the S-10 with a leafblower......I bealive they actually gained 10 HP with a simple junk leafblower, some duct tape, and an S-10 pickup.

Electric superchargers ARE possible. They cost more than a regular supercharger, and perform worse. For a proof of concept, yes they do work.

Agreed, but he asked about the ones available on ebay. :deal

A G10 engine is 993cc so in one minute (assuming 100% volumetric efficiency) at 6000 rpm it will use 993cc x 3000 = 2,979,000cc or 105 cfm of air. To compress this air to let's say 10psi boost pressure requires about 4 hp (assuming 100% compressor efficiency but probably in reality closer to 5 hp)

At 12 volts and 750 watts/hp this will be about 250 amps of current. That is why aftermarket electrics won't work.
If you want to do the calcs yourself.

i dont understand how they expect a coke can fan to compress air... that thing sounds like a blender full of ice!

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm definitely not investing in this, but is there any other affordable way to get a little more power out of my car?

Make it a 5 speed.

it may help at lower rpms. think about it, you have less torque at low rpms at full throttle because the air doesnt have the momentum to fully fill the cylinder, lets say the electric weak turbo increased air velocity by 10% at lower rpms, then the cylinders would fill with more air, hence slightly higher volumetric efficiency = increased torque = better mpg. it would function like a eco grind cam. at slightly higher rpms effect would fade out, and at peak rpms it may cost you torque by acting like a small restriction.

to a certain degree sneezing into your intake may cause a temporary spike in horsepower at a low enough rpm....in theory....lol

thats looking at it from a physics stand point.

question, has any one actually bought installed and tested to prove that its garbage..... verses opinions based on "he said, she said"?

Follow the links in the above posts.

Do the math from this post http://geometroforum.com/single/?p=717000&t=5009838

Pumping air is energy intensive. I spent 16 yrs doing these calculations for a living.
