. Two separate incidents... both using Vista Home Premium: First laptop (Acer Aspire 5100-3357) - developed an issue where all USB ports became inop except for being able to run my cooling fan. Replacement laptop (HP Pavillion TX-1000) - slipped on dog 'spit-up' and it landed on the same tile floor my hip did, cracking the screen and breaking off the front right corner. It still worked afterwards, but after being shutdown over night, it will now not reboot. Safe Mode and System Repair Mode both have no effect. Help! . 1) Try to remove/reinstall the MB drivers 2) Not sure what "Safe Mode and System Repair Mode both have to effect". Explain and maybe I can help. |

. Sorry... should have read: both have NO effect. They start to do their thing, and then it shuts down and restarts. Need step-by step of where to find MB the drivers. . |

1) if what rmcelwee doesn't work, I also found this kb article. Be careful if you get to, and decide to run the regedit, you could end up reloading windows. 2)might have to open some compartments on the bottom of the laptop and remove and reinstall things like the memory and hard drive. . I have tried removing the battery and running just off of the cord. Then the other way around, to no avail. . |

Modern laptops (modern computers in general) are absolute trash and have a 2-3 year lifespan at best. That lifespan deecreases when dropped, time for a new one! |

Not necessarily, I saved the laptop I'm using now from a liquid spill. It wouldn't stay powered up, took it apart and cleaned it, working good. Granted, a drop could be worse... Try this then this usually I try to remove any components(hard drive, memory, cd-rom, battery, wireless adapter) from the bottom and reseat them, there just may be a loose connection somewhere. **couple of warnings tho: those components do not like static electricity. Use to be the fcc didn't like people removing the wireless adapter for what ever reason... |

first laptop; as other poster stated, uninstall/install drivers (or attempt to update). dont know vista too well, so dont know how to navigate for you, in xp, you would go start ->control panel->system properties->hardware tab->then device manager button. if you can figure out how to do the same in vista, then you just need to double click on the usb driver to get the uninstall/rollback driver options. second laptop is probably toast, but just to clarify; you said it will not reboot - do you mean that it will not boot at all? |
